Is is ok to cut binding the length of material instead of selvage to selvage.
I can get much longer pieces using the length. Thanks for help. Nancy

I do not think it makes a lot of difference whether you cut selvage to selvage or with the lengthwise strait of grain as long as you are making a quilt without any curved out edges. I have been known to use both and saw no difference.

Oh thanks Marcia for your quick response. I am short on material so this would work much better for me. Glad to know you have done it also  :lol

Thanks Loretta too for your response, you gals are great!!

Sewmuch

I have only made small quilts however I have cut my binding to fit the quilt & have butt the bindings.
Just recently I tried another way - which was to cut across the width of the fabric from selvedge to selvedge & join all lengths & make a continious binding, mitre the corners as I go & over lap the start & finish slightly. Sew the two ends together & fit to edge of quilt. So the binding is done as one complete unit.
Hope you can understand what I mean. There is a tutorial I think it is on Quilters TV.

I usually always cut lengthwise on binding.
