Hi all,
I bought 2 silver windshield reflective shades at the dollar store today, was wondering if they could be used like insul-brite in a quilted potholder? What do you think?

Don't know if they are washable. maybe make a small sample from scraps, wash a few times and see how it works protecting from the heat after washing. Zigzag edges well instead of binding so it doesn't ravel apart.

I'm not sure they're made out of the same fabric. Although they are shiny and reflect like and sunlight. That is somewhat different that the fabric used in the potholder padding.

I might suggest trying it with a test sample. But the cost of the insul-bright padding doesn't compare to having fingers and hands burned with something hot.

Is there product or company information on the shades that you could contact them or their website?

Seems like there's a big difference between the heat of sunlight and the heat of a hot dish. Even inside a car in Arizona in August, I doubt it ever reaches 350 degrees. I just don't think it would stand up to direct heat very well.

I actually opened it up and its very thin and has almost like a thin styrofoam backing on it , so I don't think it will work but thanks for the feedback.
