I recently purchased Retayne to set the dye in a quilt for my bed. My concern is my wash machine is newer and "saves water". Can I still use the Retayne in my washer or should I go to a laundromat. My DH suggested I do it in the bathtub, but not sure if I could stir for 20 minutes. Any suggestions?

as long as it uses enough water to wash it, it should be fine

you only need to cover the fabric with water for it to work

Correct me if I'm wrong... Retayne needs to be used in 130º water and is best to use before material is in the quilt. Synthrapol...keeps migrating dye from attaching to other fabrics in the wash.
Shout color catchers do an excellent job of absorbing stray dye when washing a quilt. Good luck!

should have washed in Retayne before you made the quilt....synthropol would be better and the color catchers

Retayne is for use prior to cutting or assembly of the quilt top. Sythropol is for once its constructed.

I havent' cut it yet, I just wanted to prepare the material, but it's great to know about the Sythropol. Retayne needs to be used in hot water, but my question was about the low amount of water my washer uses. Will it still work to avoid going to a laundermat.

I used Retayne on a finished quilt with red flower appliques scattered over it. I only soaked the red flowers (they ran when I wet the backing to remove the paper). It worked just fine, and the flowers didn't run when I washed the quilt. I do think you have to completely cover with water. Call the company if you have any questions.

You only need enough to cover the fabric, or so the solution can move through the fibers, but you need the water temp to be 140 Degrees to be effective.
