Ripped borders

Hi everyone, I am making a quilt with long sashing borders, so I ripped the sashing down the fabric instead of across. Every thing went o.k., until I started piecing, and then the sides of the sashing were becoming unraveled. So I just kept going, until I realized that I could just cut the edges with my rotary cutter. I wonder now if the sashing I pieced with the ragged edges are going to unravel and split the seams. Does anyone have any words of wisdom about this?

I have done this with no problems. I did however, starch the pieces before I sewed them and that seemed to help with the raveling. I also press to one side or other to take the stress off the seams.

Examine the ravelling edge and check the threads where the seam is. Are the threads nice and close like the fabric that is further in? If not you may want to take them off and neaten the edge with your rotary cutter. I like to cut about 1/2 inch off after ripping border pieces. Ripping to me seems to open up the weave on the edge and I don't like it. It is up to you if you think it may not hold, then perhaps you better fix it.
