Rochester, NY

I will be in Rochester next month for a weekend for my best friends baby shower. I am hoping to have time to go to at least one quilting store. What is your favorite one in the area and why? I will be taking the train so no other stops for me just in Rochester

What area of Rochester will you be visiting? In the actual city or one of the outlying suburbs? Just asking, because it sounds like you might not have a car to get around.
We used to live near Rochester and loved to go to Fabrics & Findings, but they closed and then reopened with mostly home decor type things. I've heard that Patricia's Fabric House in East Rochester is really great for quilt shoppers. I wish I could tell you more, but will be watching your post avidly to see if anyone has answers for you. My son goes to college there and it would be nice to visit some quilt shops when he is busy and we're there.

Hope you have a great time visiting your friend!

Chili is where i will be staying with my friend. She does have a car so she is able to take me around the area. Any of the suburbs are fine.

Goodness! We lived in Spencerport, which is right north of Chili. BTW our favorite diner there was the Chili Family Restaurant. Hoping you get some good suggestions for shopping! Is your friend also a quilter / sewist? Or does she know anyone who loves to fabric shop? They might also have suggestions.

My favorite shop to the south of Rochester is Material Rewards in Dansville. DEFINITELY worth the half-hour drive! My favorite shop to the east of Rochester is Ivy Thimble in Victor. Also well worth the drive! There is a shop in Webster and I will be going there for the first time this weekend......so, I cannot recommend that one just yet. Patricia's is nice too, if you want to stay in Rochesster. This area is a great place for a quilter!!!

Patricia's is in East Rochester, in Pianoworks Plaza. Nice fabric, but not always so nice staff. More than once I've been there while they were talking - and making no effort to be subtle - about a customer. When I'm in the area, though, I do stop in. There's also a really nice cross stitch shop in the same Plaza (Golden Thread) and a yarn shop (Village Yarn) across the street.

Going out of the city, you'll find Ivy Thimble in Victor, not far from the area's largest mall (Eastview). Nice shop, carries a wide selection of fabrics, from Civil War to more modern (Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett). Heading south to Dansville, you'd find Material Rewards, another great shop. More traditional and CW's. Love the store and the staff. They all have websites, you might get a feel for what you'd like best that way?

I would for sure go to Ivy Thimble in Victor or since you are in Chili you could go down Rt 36 and hit Chestnut Bay in Caledonia and Mt. Pleasant in York
