i have both the basic type (circles with emery paper - completely manual) and the fancy shmancy yellow & black sharpener that uses sharpening stones (also manual, but supposed to be less effort).

i find that, for me, the basic type takes more muscle but works better. neither makes blades like new, but they can help you get more use out of them.

I had one a long time ago (I think it was blue) and it didn't work worth a hoot!

I did not even know that such a thing exists. Jim bought me a package of five for Christmas. I just put in the first one last week.

I have the blue manusl one and it has truly saved me money on buying new blades as often. Works just fine for me.

I've got one, as far as I'm concerned they're not worth the money or the time and effort to sharpen the blades. My 2 cents worth.

I have one & believe it does extend the use of your blades. I will buy another one when this one no longer works!

I think that if you are on a budget and willing to put a little umph into the sharpening process, then the sharpening stone is worth it. If you are not on a budget, changing the blades is the easier way to go. I have the sharpener, and it dies extend the life of my blades.
