Hi,

I'm new to rotary cutting. I have the June Tailor Shape Cut Slotted Ruler and the Olfa Rotary Cutter & mat. I'm a little confused do I line up the bold 0 line on the ruler with the 0 line on the mat? Or do I line up the 0 on the ruler with the bottom fold of the fabric? Does it really matter at what number the what the fabric is placed? Thanks, April :)

Hi April, first off Welcome to the board!!
I love that cutting tool- use it all the time.
I don't line it up with the mat, only the fabric. I start at
the zero b/c it's just easier for me.
Hope this helps! :D

I use the mat because it is easier for me to see if I am lining up correctly I match the slots in the ruler with the mat, but you can use the fabric and the lines in the ruler as well

If your fabric is folded you really need to be careful and line the fold at the zero on the ruler.

I fold my fabric and line the fold with the black line on the ruler and the raw edge of the fabric with the "0" slot.

Rarely is a piece perfectly straight when you start. you usually have to trim the edge at the zero for the first cut. Line the fold at, not under, the black line and go from there.
