OMG SO cheap! You guys are SO lucky. Fabric is so expensive here in the UK.

Am singing to the famous tune.......I wanna live in America, I wanna live in America, Fabric so cheap in America LA LA LA LA LA LA America!!

Mountainquilter 02-25-2009 06:14 AM

I find that many quilters are turning to find deals on fabric whereever they can, like JoAnn's or even Walmart.

The fabric shops, a lot of the material is upwards of $9 to $10 a yard now. I can remember back when my grandmother was teaching my sister and I to sew, the material was $.57 a yard. We thought it was outrageous when it hit $1.00 a yard.

What do you pay in the UK?

Its minumum £8 ($12) a METRE in my LQS. And that is for plain, no pattern, no brand, non designer cotton fabric.

1 metre is 1.09 yards

Mountainquilter 02-25-2009 07:20 AM

Wow, I guess that does make it expensive for a hobby.

You must save all your scraps too?

I have gone out into my own designs and am trying to do some art quilts from my photographs.

What kind of quilts do you like to make, traditional? art?

Mplsgirl 02-25-2009 07:43 AM

thismomquilts 02-25-2009 08:39 AM
