I will be going there 2nd week of Sept. Anyone have any advice for a country NC girl? Really, just want to know of any fabric places to shop...quilt shops, WalMart, JoAnn's, Hancock, Ben Franklin types too. Also any must eat places. Love food and don't want to miss out on anything.
Thanks for any tips.

You gotta go to the zoo!! San Diego, IMO, has the BEST zoo in the world!! :) Sea World is kind of cool too... Balboa Park in general is interesting!

The box stores you mention aren't going to have anything that you can't get at home, or near home...I wouldn't bother with them. ;)

Glad you weathered the storm in good shape! :)

be sure and go to Rosie's Quilt Shop. It is in a town just north of San Diego. Look it up. You will be amazed.

depending on the route you take between the two places - you could visit M&L Fabric http://www.yelp.com/biz/m-and-l-fabr...-store-anaheim It might be a bit out of your way, but you'll save on fabric to offset any fuel costs. Plan at least 2 hours to see everything. If you go on Saturday the isles get pretty challenging with all the crazy quilters pushing carts loaded with bolts of fabric...wait that would be me...

I live in the San Diego area, and know of a couple of good LQS's. As mentioned, Rosie's is a must...the full name is Rosie's Calico Cupboard, off the 8 freeway take 70th St south to El Cajon Blvd, turn left and it's down a way on your right. Also Quilter's Paradise in Escondido. Take the 78 freeway East from the 5 freeway (toward Escondido), take the Nordahl Rd offramp, turn left at top of offramp, cross over freeway, turn right at first street (Montiel?), it's down a way on your right, it's a couple of streets past the small park on your left. Another one is Bits & Pieces in Escondido. Continue on the 78 freeway East, past Nordahl, get off on Center City Parkway, go South to 2nd street (one way street) turn left, take a left at the first driveway and you will be in their parking lot. We are also having the San Diego Quilt show from Sept. 8-10 or 8-11 at the San Diego Convention Center near downtown San Diego. If you need any more info or want to talk to me, just PM me. HAVE FUN IN "AMERICA'S FINEST CITY"!

Edited: We also have Quilt in a Day in nearby San Marcos.

I also live in San Diego-maybe a few of us down here could get together when your here and make the rounds of our shops! We have a really nice LQS right here in Ramona, called The Crazy Nine Patch. San Diego has the best of every conceivable restaurant as well! Near Rosies Quilt Shop is DZ Akins restaurant-UNBELIEVABLE food-a casual Jewish restaurant and deli. If you want to get together with some of us while your here, keep me posted-I would love to!

There is a cute little shop in Fallbrook also called Quilters Cottage. Fallbrook is a small community on the San Diego/Riverside County border and is known as the avocado capital. It would be fun for us North County girls to get together. Anyone interested?

I am in San Diego and can recommend all the LQS that have been suggested. If you are out in East county add Cozy Quilt shop in El Cajon.

For food would depend on what you are looking for. There are wonderful resteraunts in all pice ranges. I would suggest:

World Famous on the beach in Pacific beach.

If you are visiting Balboa park Prado is very good. Prado is a Cohn family resteraunt and all there places are excellant and you can google them and see them all.

My favorite is 3rd Corner in Ocean Beach but they have one in Palm Springs also.

For casual lunch try Pt. Loma seafood at the fishing docks.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
I would love to get together too if you want to do that.
