If you are supposed to leave about 2" all around of the batting, how do you align the top and backing. If you can't tell I am a new quilter
Thanks Nanc

Nanc, I always make the backing larger than the top so you won't have to worry about that. You can always trim it after, along with the batting.
Hope this helps!! :D

You leave the backing 2" larger too
I like the backing to be just a tad wider than the batting. This helps me with sandwiching and lining up the top also.

you can pin around the edge of the top, flip it over and use the pin line to line up your back

When I have my layers laid out I fold the edge of the bottom over so it shows, then use chalk or a pin to mark the center, edge of a column, or whatever I'm trying to line up.

I've also heard of folks who quilt from the backing side though I've not tried that yet.
