I have always been a hand quilter but not anymore. My husband gave me a Tin Lizzie 18 for Christmas. Boy was I surprised. We are both hoping I can get good at it and take in other people's quilts. We put it together and it is a beast. Can't wait to play with it today.

Have fun and remember practice, practice, practice.

glassnquilts 12-30-2010 03:23 PM

I practiced some this afternoon. I am making some small quilts for charity.

jeanneb52 12-31-2010 03:20 AM

Awesome but remember there is a learning period. Don't get discouraged. For awhile you may wonder "WHY did I get the beast??" Keep Practicing. Then one day it all comes together for you. Enjoy!

Hate to show my ignorance but what is a Tin Lizzy? Apparently everyone else knows what it is.

You must have been a VERY good girl! But don't abandon your hand quilting! Both are wonderful. I try to keep up with both!

I have the Tin Lizzie LS18 with Shirley Sticher II. The first year was H#*L to say the least. Have learn to over come many of my problems. The easiest lesson was to use King Tut Thread. There are a few videos on youtube.

Hugs and Stitches 12-31-2010 04:20 PM

Wow...That was quite a Christmas present. What made you choose that one?

quilttiludrop 12-31-2010 04:34 PM

That is great validation! It shows he appreciates your love of quilting (and maybe the quilts too!) :-)

i also have the tin lizzie ls18 but not the shirley stitcher. i love mine too. my machine likes king tut also. but i also use Signature thread from redrockthreads.com. it has 3,000 yds on a spool instead of 2,000 and sells for little less than king tut. and it works just beautiful as well.

Happy feet dance for you both!

sosewcrazy 12-31-2010 06:46 PM

Have fun! I got one last spring and she and I are just beginning to be friends. I thought she was a little nasty at first with breaking threads and her Lizzie stitch didn't want to work. But I got new thread, got the Lizzie stitch working, and now we're getting along better. I've just done meandering, circles, and stippling so far but I'm not afraid of her any longer.

glassnquilts 12-31-2010 07:08 PM

Quiltinggranny,
The Tin Lizzie is a long arm Quilting machine.
Also someone asked me why I chose that one. My husband chose it. He talked to my dad who has one and decided it would be good. I had no idea I was getting it. Total shock.
