I am wondering if there is anyone on the board who does sashiko. It's a decorative Japanese quilting stitch. I am learning and interested in finding interesting designs.

Do a search above. A couple of years ago, there a few members who posted sashiko projects. There is a pretty nice listing, too many to list.Seems like Steve and Yvonne had nice ones, in particular. It's pretty, but I've never tried it.(O:

I am interested in this too. I bought a great book at a garage sale this summer and it has piqued my interest. As well, I have a good friend who is Japanese and she has told me lots about it. Have you seen the Husqvarna sashiko machine? I saw a Fons and Porter episode today that was about sashiko- interesting. She used the machine on the show.

I love it. This is what I did:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-26160-1.htm The guild I belong to had a gal come and teach it. It is portable. enjoyable and really neat. There are several places on line that have books and patterns. I have found several at my local quilt store. |
I found a good book in our local library.

I love Shibori Dragon for supplies including easy kits. Susan Briscoe is an amazing quilt artist and sashiko expert. She has several fabulous books. I just bought her general quilting book today, 200 Quilting Tips, Techniwues, & Trade Secrets. It's very accessible to the beginner but not boring to the experienced. She also wrote The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook, Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix & Match (pieced, appliquéd, sashiko), and Japanese Taupe Quilts. I get frequent sashiko tutorials free from Studio Aika. Sorry no links :(, hard to achieve from iPhone. Adore Kitty and Sylvia Pippens books and designs also.

Babylock has a machine and demo if you go into their site.
