Saturday Sewing

Is anyone spending at least part of the day sewing today?
I have been so busy lately, and finally have a free weekend.
Cleaning and laundry are waiting for tomorrow.
I did some work around the house this morning, but
this afternoon I have been spending sewing. Needed to '
take a quick break to give my eyes and neck a break.
Am working on some Christmas presents for family and
friends.

Hope others are finding time to sew today too!

Dolphyngyrl 11-17-2012 12:44 PM

No but I was organizing my quilting embroidery designs on my zip drives to make them easier to find

sandyl 11-17-2012 12:59 PM

I was working on a wall hanging for a gift till I sewed thru my finger. ouch. So, I quit for awhile and now watching OSU vs. WI. football.

patski 11-17-2012 01:08 PM

I sewed for several hours this morning, got a wave pattern quilt put together and now have it all pinned and ready to fmq. It felt so good to get it done!

susansomethings 11-17-2012 01:15 PM

I made my first log cabin block today. ...I have heard it said a lot of people say this is an easy block. I have looked at log cabins for some time & never did one. So I took the plunge today & did my first one. It came out better then I expected but still not exactly as I would have liked. I think I tend to be to much of a perfectionest. I have made several quilts I can't figure why this intimadates me so much..oh well...onward I go.

Pinkiris 11-17-2012 02:00 PM

I'm working on a black/white and hot pink French braid quilt for our granddaughter. I can only look at those strips for so long, and then I need to walk away. That's why I'm here now!

carolaug 11-17-2012 02:03 PM

I took a nice long nap from 11-3:30pm...I am still tired...but may try and sew a few blocks together before the day ends

SandiGrove 11-17-2012 02:06 PM

I spent the day at a machine quilting class - came home and tried:thumbdown:

Stitchnripper 11-17-2012 02:10 PM

Does it count if I am sewing but not quilting? Working on more pajama pants.

irishrose 11-17-2012 02:20 PM

An apron and catching up on the train mystery quilt in between laundry and dog walking. Oh, and a Spicy Spiral table runner on another machine. I just stopped to catch my breath after the walk.

I'm making a sweatshirt jacket for my older DD's neighbor girl. It's going to have a woven fabric edge on the fronts, two different sized yo-yo's and 4 folded diamond patches. Got all the fabric cut-------------still have not decided on what color sweatshirt to use. DD thinks hot pink or teal and I'm leaning toward forest green.

GrannieAnnie 11-17-2012 02:44 PM

oh and making a super easy glasses case (more a protector) for my reading glasses in my purse.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 11-17-2012 03:02 PM

Sewing blocks together for my double wedding ring.

kathdavis 11-17-2012 03:24 PM

Been making my meatballs and sauce to freeze for three Christmas family dinners. Trying to get a jump start on the holidays. I'm done now and need to embroidery a label for a quilt and finish some Winding Road blocks. I can't wait to get to my sewing machine.

Elise1 11-17-2012 05:46 PM

I worked on Judy Niemeyer's Indian Summer quilt pattern. I got the center section together and was somewhat disappointed in the look. Then I layed out the 120 piece border and WOW! Now the quilt looks great. Fun day for me.

joyce888 11-17-2012 05:50 PM

I actually finished up 10 pillowcases I had started. Will work on BOM tomorrow.

patchsamkim 11-17-2012 05:55 PM

Sounds like lots of us got to do some sewing or quilting. Thanks for sharing what you did today!

pattypurple 11-17-2012 06:11 PM

I've spent most of the last to days at machine embroidery classes. Figured since I have all my Christmas presents bought and wrapped ready for delivery next week, that I could have time for classes and enjoying myself.

Gennynut 11-17-2012 06:16 PM

Yes, finished a small wallhanging that is a Christmas gift for my Sister. Friday I finished my 12 Days of Christmas Wallhanging. Had an 18 item unfinished list. I Eliminated 2 off the list. So now only 14 to go!! I need a Tee Shirt that says "Queen of Unfinished Projects"

I was sewing and watching the game, too. I did age about 100 yrs watching that game - and it's a good thing that i had my grays covered last weekend, because I'm sure that i got about 100 more gray hairs, too!!!!

I'm making this quilt that takes about 25 min to make each block....I don't know why I figured that out, and kinda wish I didn't know that bit of info??? LOL!!

Ps 150 11-17-2012 06:22 PM

Saturdays are my sewing days. I homeschool Monday through Friday and Sundays are our church/family days, so while the girls have fun playing on Saturdays, I get some sewing done.

Pam B 11-17-2012 06:23 PM

I need to sew, however, nothing for Xmas gifts. This morning I tackled our bedroom....need to deep clean in there. At noon, DD (22) came to visit. We went out to lunch, visited a holiday bazaar, stopped in to see the grandbaby (14 weeks old), and then did some shopping at the mall. Came back to our house and DH grilled tbones for dinner. She just left to head back to her apt in Indy, an hour away. After church tomorrow, I will most definitely finish cleaning house. DD will be back on Weds and we want to go ahead and decorate for the holidays. Maybe I can find some time to sew Monday evening .

Trene 11-17-2012 06:25 PM

I spent most of the day hand quilting a crib quilt for my neice's baby, born thursday! I will see her in about 3 weeks and have been working fairly casually on the hand quilting, but now the push is on!

quiltingme 11-17-2012 06:28 PM

Saturdays at our house in the fall are mostly for watching football! I hope to get started on a new quilt after Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

I spent the day sharing the History of Sewing machines at a library. We took 6 machines from our collection as visual aids. Did not take any of the featherweights or 301's we have for sale cuz I just wanted the talk to be informative and not appear like a sales pitch. I did see some people pick up business cards and brochures so thinking good thoughts here! To night I sewed on a featherweight DH had refurbished today to make sure it was running nicely - making king size strip quilt for our bed. Hope it turns out ok. It has been sewn on by a lot of different sewing machines.

Jingle 11-17-2012 07:32 PM

I spent most of the day sewing on another Illusion quilt, two colors. I finished one last Sunday and started this one last Sunday. I would have it finished by this coming Sunday but, Wednesday I will be baking pies and dressing for Thanksgiving, then off to our country place where we celebrate a country Thanksgiving. We started this tradition about 33 years ago. We will come home about Friday noon and then I will sew the rest of the day and Saturday and Sunday. I was also doing laundry, I will do housework tomorrow and then sew some more. I sew at least a couple hours each evening after work and weekends while I do laundry nd housework. Most quilts I can make in two weeks.

sandy l 11-18-2012 04:17 AM

I spent most of the afternoon in the sewing room working on a purse. Turned into a total screw-up, ..don't ask. So doing laundry today will be a relief:D

janegb 11-18-2012 04:32 AM

I was cleaning up/out my sewing room, and found so much stuff I started and didn't finish. 2 quilt tops, that I would never finish, 8-unused 1-1/2 yds of broadcloth in primary colors, so many square in a squares I couldn't count them, at least 100 - 4x4" 4 patch squares, about the same amount of Flying geese 3x6", so I bundled them up nicely, put labels on them, and took to one of our local Thrift Shops. Someone will be happy to have them, and I wouldn't use them. Have a lot more to clean out. So much stuff I forgot I had! I didn't sew tho.

lillybeck 11-18-2012 05:13 AM

No sewing for me. Our church is having our Thanksgiving dinner today so yesterday was spent in the kitchen while washing bed clothes and putting them back on the bed. Never did get aroung to vacuuming the dog hair up off the floor.

mhollifiel 11-18-2012 05:59 AM

Drove straight home to eastern NC from St Louis where we saw grandson in his banjo concert Thursday night. HE was Great! Left (after a stop at Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate Factory!) after 2pm and arrived home @ 7:30am. Spent most of day in bed and unpacking/laundry. Did stop on the way there at Hancock's in Paducah! Now today you will be able to hear my machine purring for sure!!

Friday1961 11-18-2012 06:22 AM

I cut out an "Enderman" (a Minecraft creeper character; Minecraft is an online computer game) to make for my grandson for Christmas. Though sewing that black fleece may do me in!

I am a new quilter, this is my first completed project (BOM from Craftsy). I have a number of 'goof-ups' but am still proud that I finished it, didn't become too frustrated and have something to give to my granddaughter for her first Christmas with their two newly adopted children. If I sew on a Saturday during college football season, I'm done by 11:00 CST. I am a football fan and a Nebraska football fanatic, so my day revolves around all the good games.

KathyPhillips 11-18-2012 11:43 AM

Try the Log Cabin Quilt in a Day Pattern from Eleanor Burns. This was my first EB pattern. It is strip pieced, and you don't make one block at a time. You cut 2 1/2" x 45" long strips, sew together the center block strip (usually red, but can be any color) with the first light, then cut those into 2 1/2" segments. Sew the next light strip on these segments, then cut them . . .It goes really fast and the blocks should be squared up as you go, so the blocks are square.
You have to try this, if you like log cabins.!

Spent Saturday straightening up sewing room - ready to some more Christmas
gifts as soon as Thanksgiving is over!

For your first quilt, that's gorgeous! I now your daughter will really enjoy it!

Mimiqwerty 11-18-2012 01:22 PM

Spent the morning doing work work and dusting ( when I can write my name on the furniture, I decide to dust). Wanted to quilt, but DH has decided to clean out my former sewing room in the basement, and I know to keep a low profile lol. He's informed me that I have enough fabric and batting to open a store--this from a man who added a workshop addition to the back of the garage to store all his tools and power equipment that rarely get used. Oh well, after 40 years, we have learned to ignore each other's tiny barbs :p . Beautiful day here in NE Wisconsin, and the Packers just won!

PolkaBabe 11-18-2012 03:54 PM

I finished a small table runner & have worked on a 54 x 78 wall hanging of a Christmas tree.
