Scared to death

So, I went to the NQA show in Columbus, OH today. So many beautiful quilts! Anyway, I was having so much fun test driving the different longarm machines. Well, I ended up buying one - the Janome Artistic. I'm so excited for it to be delivered and set up, but I'm also scared to death that I jumped in too quick. I'll keep you all posted.

I hope you enjoy it!!

Grandma Peg 06-14-2012 03:50 PM

Good for you, have fun with it.

leaha 06-14-2012 03:52 PM

Have lots of fun with it!!

Gotta start somewhere... Sounds like you had alot of fun. You only live once so I am glad you dove in and got it rather than regretting never getting one. Have fun with it. Lots of people use charity quilts to practice on so that may be a great idea.

AuntieD 06-14-2012 04:30 PM

Yea for you! You will do fine, just go slow and practice alot.

Lori S 06-14-2012 04:51 PM

Take on the newest additon with all the enthusiasum you should have! and allow yourself time to learn!

Keep us posted on how it is going!

I believe (but I could be wrong) that Tin Lizzie made this machine for Janome. It looks identical to my Tin Lizzie 18 that I got last year. Although you will have many learning curves, as with any new machine, you will have so much fun. Good luck with your new setup and please post pictures for us.

You are absolutely correct. Artistic replaced the Queen Quilter, also made by Tin Lizzie. I have the QQ.

Ooh! You are going to have so much fun! I am waiting for my Crown Jewel to be delivered and set up next week.

Practice...practice...practice! You will be fine!

No worries, you'll be having fun in no time! I've learned that if I'm going to try anything new, I just have to jump in and commit before I have time to talk myself out of it. Can't wait to see all the gorgeous quilts you'll be turning out on your new machine.

I can so relate! I just bought a new machine yesterday (online), and I woke up last night, worrying about it. I hope we both love our new toys!

Thanks for all your words of encouragement! They can't be here for set up until mid-July - but that's ok, it gives me time to "absorb" it all (and get my sewing room ready). Now that I'm through with the initial shock, I'm super excited!

penski 06-16-2012 03:12 PM

great for you have fun and enjoy your new machine

mighty 06-16-2012 04:29 PM

Enjoy your machine, you are going to love it.

pungogal 06-16-2012 05:04 PM

Take your initial class asap! learn to load the quilt, use your laser light, pantos, if it doesnt have a channel lock, learn the poor mans channel lock..believe me..i went thru this four years ago. if u need advice let me kniw but once you are up and running you will only wush you bought a bigger one!

Don't be afraid. Inquire about taking a one-day class, some LQS's offer the class. Also YouTube has many videos on how to put the backing and quilt top onto the machine. I had taken the class about 4 1/2 years before I bought my Nolting Fun Quilter, after looking at YouTube and reading the material that came with the machine, I felt comfortable. I've had my Nolting a year last April and so far I have quilted 14 different quilts or table runners. I make quilts for a local childrens cancer hospital so my quilts are smaller than a full size quilt. Just have fun, you'll never regret it, JUMP IN, so if it's not perfect, who cares your learning.

TrenbeathRanch 06-16-2012 05:26 PM

Congratulations!

No second thoughts allowed---Just jump in and enjoy your new machine.

Scakes 06-16-2012 07:20 PM

Yippee for you. Have fun and happy quilting.

I have had my longarm for a year now. I spent most of the year recuperating from a broken arm so have only been able to use it for a few months now. I have done many charity quilts for a group that I quilt with - thank goodness for them because I can't make them fast enough to get enough practice.

Right now, I have a friends' quilt on the machine for the second time. The first time we did some of the work together and the tension was off and there were many loops on the back. Time to take it off and unsew all that work. Took a couple of evenings, but I got it done and it is back on the machine for me to do by myself.

Now, the darn thing just stopped and I can't figure out what has happened - I can hardly wait for the quilt shop to open in the morning so I can call the owner and ask for his help.

Sometimes those snap decisions are the best ones! Enjoy your new toy!

DonnaC 06-18-2012 11:35 AM

I'm sure you will love your new longarm, and even if you don't (for whatever reason), they certainly seem to hold their value. At least, that's the impression I get from surfing on this board and other places too. So, if you figure out it's not for you, sell it, and recoup your investment!

I don't see the Janome brand name mentioned any where on this machine. It looks more like an independent version than a corporate sponsored one like the Viking 18.8 I would be jumping all over any of the new Tin Lizzy manufactured machines if I was a new mid-arm wanna-be, though. No criticism intended. I just didn't want others to run to their Janome dealers expecting to buy this machine as I don't believe it being sold by Janome.

Is anyone having tension issues with this Artistic machine? We seem to have the bottom looking good but the top not so much.....thinking it's a bobbin issue in this case but want to make sure. We also seem to have to fiddle with the tension every time we turn the machine on....is this normal?

Onebyone 10-05-2015 12:04 PM

From all the reviews of all the LA set ups, Tin Lizzy is the one to stay away from because of poor customer service.

jude by the sea 10-05-2015 02:16 PM

Oh boy...I know that feeling... My advice is jump right in! Don't be afraid have fun...
