School Glue Sticks..
I want to thank who ever posted this little tip on using a school glue stick to hold down the binding as you sew it down instead of pins.
This works so well I could not believe how well it holds the binding in place as you sew it on. I had forgot about this tip and was struggling with the binding on a long table runner with a lot of pins in it to hold the binding in place, then I remembered this tip and what a differents it made. No more pins to get in the way,and no more distorted binding... who ever put this tip on here it is a great tip...Thank you Now that all of the school supplies are on sale this is a good time to stock up on the glue sticks.... |
just bought my glue stash!

I take it, the glue down't gum up your needle? I just remember how awful it was to try to sew on self-stick Velcro before I knew they made sew on Velcro. The glue gummed up the needle and would make the stitches skip...

I hadn't tried to glue sticks for my binding, but I saw on a Susan Schamber tutorial to use Elmer's School Glue and I did and it worked great and did not gum up my needle. Was very helpful in keeping the binding where it needed to be while I was sewing it on. Gonna have to try the glue sticks--less mess I'll bet.

School glue is not a glue. It's a heavy starch so it won't gum up the needle and it washes out completely. The school glue sticks are of course thicker then the bottle glue but still a starch.

Do you use a hot dry iron when you use the stick glue?
|
That is way too cool.

I use the school glue for binding and then a dry iron. I use the sticks for embroidey applique on my embroidey machine. Just takes a dab and holds it in place. No problems on either process. Love it!
BTW. I don't use iron for applique. |
I use glue sticks when putting my 3 layers together for rag quilts, works great--just wish the sticks had more glue in them I seem to use them up quite fast. As posted a few weeks ago on the Board, Walmart has them on sale now with school supplies for 10 cents each. U sure stoocked up!!
