Scrappy Quilt Definition

This is an off-shoot of another thread - http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...ml#post5668548

How do you define "Scrappy Quilt"?

I think the over-all link to the different styles is "made from many fabrics' -

But beyond that - some people specifically purchase many more or less coordinated fabrics for a project

Some use mostly 'leftovers' from other projects

Some use the 'grab it and use it' method

Some will agonize over color placement (I'm one of those)

What kind of scrappy quilt maker are you?

50+ fabrics in a quilt......all of them purchased or pulled from stash specifically for that quilt.
And I always consider color/value placement.

I toss out scraps. With no guilty feelings. I have enough carp in my sewing room.

I like scrappy quilts. I am always amazed at how this pile of stuff that doesn't look like it belongs together really works well. When making scrappy quilts, I like to have things such as pindots, stripes, 2-tone checks that can act as a sold and blend 2 pieces that seem like they'd never go together.

I'm a "use the 'grab and go', 'mostly leftovers' and 'never agonize of color placement'" scrappy quilter:)

Scrappy quilts to me are quilts of many different fabrics...probably for me usually 100 different fabrics or more...and I will usually have some fabric that ties it all together....whether that is sashing, block centers, border...the scrappier the better for me!

i use whatever scraps i have accumulated, but they are sorted into darks and lights.

My favorite scrappy is when I just pick up whatever color or shape and zigzaqg it onto some scrap foundation then put them all together. I think whatever I want to call it or whichever way I do it is ok because it is mine and I can make it any way I want to. Not trying to be ugly

I like a large number of fabrics and usually separate by light and dark. Sometimes I have a color pallet, but not usually.

To me it's the total number of different fabrics, not necessarily that they are alll true "scraps", i.e. leftovers from some other project. I just LOVE scrappy quilts, the more fabrics and styles of fabric the better. I mix florals with plaids and batiks and reproduction prints, and often throw in a novelty print or two just to bring a smile. And I totally agree with all the others who have said it's more about value placement than color with a scrap quilt.

I am the same way. I have so many little scrappy pieces that I just cut squares or strips and then fit them together not paying much attention to colors or placement. I usually try to tie it all together with some sort of sashing and cornerstones. Works for me
