Just wondering how is best to save leftover pieces from quilt projects... Should I cut up to store as FQ, 5", LC, or what ever piece allows? or just save all together in color tub?

I like scrap control...i spent w/e ironing scraps and cutting into usable squares, strips, and rectangles....after that, to tiny pieces go into container and is eventually used to stuff toys made for gifts!

I toss my mine into a large basket I keep under the arm of my sewing table. However, since reading posts on here, I'm ready to start cutting mine, as it would be a much more organized system. I have a blanket chest full of scraps, but for some reason, can't part with them.

Have you done a search for scrap ideas? There have been a lot of discussions about this topic.

What types of patterns do you use? What size and shape do you find yourself using the most of? do you like wild and crazy scrappy or are you more of a planned, few color type quilter?

I'm wild and crazy so I sort by size, othe people are more planned and will sort by color then by size.

With that said ~ I don't use her complete system, just some of it. BECAUSE I do not have the space, for multiple tubs and bins

I do not cut scraps as I never know what pattern will strke my fancy. I do sort by color and type. Batiks and metalics have their own bin , everything else has a color bin.

I save my scraps - they have to be at least 3 inches by 1.5 - I use them for log cabins. I save them in a drawer (large plastic storage dresser) and when the drawer gets full, I start another log cabin.

I dont cut mine, what if I cut them and then I want them a different size later on. Mine are thown in totes by color.

I use one of these and they really don't take much space :-)

I have just started to cut mine. I decided to cut the largest square or strip the piece would allow and then go down from there. Putting them into baggies right now. As my stash grows and my quilting takes on a bigger life I will probably think of something else.
