Search for thumb thimble.....
I am going to join a hand quilting group and have to practice before I show up...it has been several yrs since I have h/q. One lady there has a neat thumb thimble...but "couldn't remember where she got it". Anyone here have suggestions/source/cost/preference. BTW my stitches are getting better......

I buy tailors thimbles. If you search for Pacific Rim Quilting, you'll find sizing directions on their thimble page. They are relatively cheap.
There's also a thumb thimble made by Ted Storm. I haven't tried it, but others really like it. Janet |
I really like the Thimble Lady thimbles. Go here and scroll down to see. http://www.thimblelady.com/quilting-thimbles/
Not sure if there's a place near you that sells them, I bought mine at a show. You can purchase directly from her website if you can't find them local. |
Here are some links:

I usually quilt towards myself so don't think a thumb thimble is necessary (nor have I ever heard of it before ) I'm thinking that the use of a thumb thimble would be an entirely new learning curve.

Saw the Ted storm thimble...that is the one that I saw in action, but when I found site in Netherlands...no price was shown, but will now explore sites offered from board, thanks....

I use a thimble on my thumb when I'm quilting on my frame. I just use one of those rubbery ones sold in LQS.... it's big enough to fit but I have to take it off often. I'll have to check out the ones you all have suggested. Thanks.

I just use one of the same leather thimbles I use on my right hand. If it has a "skirt" I might cut it off as the thumb is shorter than my fingers. I usually use one that is already well broken in from my right hand.
