Hi everyone, I'm visiting my daughter in Seattle this week, and I was wondering what would be the best quilt shops to visit?
I'll be waiting to hear from you. Kathy from Texas |
Hope you have a great time. Be sure to bring your warm clothes! I would love to help you, but I am TERRIFIED of Seattle. I drive the extra hour to go to Portland instead! If you can talk your daughter into a day trip to Portland, they have a WONDERFUL store there-Fabric Depot. I can literally spend hours and hours there. They have a website too-not all of their fabric is listed. In fact, you can put an order in now (with the sale) and pick it up while you're here-no shipping! Hope you enjoy your trip-I'll be heading your way in a couple of months!

Here is a link to the Shop Hop that just happened in the Great State of Washington. I am brand to quilting and have never been to any of them except for a long time ago with my Grandmother to The Quilt Barn in Puyallup, WA. They have since changed locations and I hear it is GREAT! I will be checking it out this week.

I wish I lived on that side of the mountains! How fun!!

Not familiar with Seattle's quilt shops, but if you have access to a car you might consider taking the ferry to the Kitsap Peninsula. There is a wonderful quilt shop in Kingston, where one ferry docks, then a few miles from there is Quilted Strait in Port Gamble, which is one of my favorite quilt shops. There is also a nice shop in Poulsbo and Material Girls in Silverdale. That would make a nice day trip from Seattle.

Wow! Thanks for the list. I've lived here all my life and hadn't a clue! I'll have to go check some of those stores out south of King County. What fun!
|
I go to
Quiltworks Northwest Keepsake Cottage Fabrics Gathering Fabric Quiltworks is big and they also have a large section of Bernina's and beads. Keepsake is my favorite. They are very down to earth and they are located in the Country Village which has many unique shops. Just watch out for the chickens =0) I have only been to Gathering Fabrics once but she has a good selection. Elenor Burns had just visited there when I stopped in. |

Oh Western WA, how I love and hate it. :) It was home for nearly 22 years, and all my family is there, so part of my heart will always reside in that wet and soggy place. On the other hand, how amazing is San Antonio?! (that's rhetorical ;) ) You are lucky to call it home!
I haven't done any fabric shopping while I was in WA but I have ordered from a really great shop in Mukilteo called Seawatch Fabrics. They specialize in batiks and Asian prints. I made a fairly large order with them a couple months back and I can't even begin to say enough good things about the fabric and the service. I would love to see their store. Have a wonderful and safe trip! |
A nice shop in Des Moines, Wa, one by Pikes Place Market.
Love Seattle area! |
Whenever we get to Pikes Place Market I have to head to Undercover Quilts. It is a small shop jam packed with beautiful fabric and very friendly helpful owners. I always find something I can't live without!
|
Ksellers, if there is any chance you will be south of Seattle there is a wonderful quilt shop in Chehalis, WA called Sisters Fabrics. I try to stop in there when I'm going to Seattle.
|
I'm working on a project in downtown Seattle (live in New Mexico) and when I can I visit Undercover Quilts, which is located in Pike Place. It's very sweet and has some lovely fabric we don't see in the southwest.

Wow guys -- thanks so much for the info. I think I'll go to Undercover Quilts tomorrow, as we are going to Pike Place. I'll try to get to some more as the week progresses, but we're going to Victoria for the weekend.I have been given the Royal Tour of Seattle today and have had so much fun. I love the cooler weather, and even the small showers were nice after being from San Antonio in the heat wave and drought.
Thanks again, Kathy Sellers |
If you get a chance to get to Yelm, there is a wonderful quilt shop call Gee Gee's. You name it they have got it. I have never seen so many patterns and the fabric selections is out of this world. I'll go again on my next trip to Washington.

I love the Calico Cat in Auburn.
|
Not sure about the area, but when my friend goes...she visits The Shibori Dragon
11124 Gravelly Lake Drive SW Lakewood, WA 98499 The best asian fabric selection, you'll ever find!!! |
The Quilt Barn in Puyallup is great, I use to always go there when I visited my parents in Bonney Lake. There's a nice shop in Orting also.
|
That's a nice shop also.

I love the Pacific Nrthwest, rain and all. Lots of quilting shops.

Mckenna Ryan moved to Bainbridge Island. Great ferry ride.
If you go you'll have to let me know how it is. I was on Bainbridge then found out Mckenna was there after I got home. Now next time I go over I gotta go back. |

Thanks for all the ideas. My daughter and I are heading to Poulsbo on the 22nd of this month and I was going to ask the same question of our quilting friends. I'm writing all these down...lol.

If you ever get to Port Angeles, we have a quilt shop called Sleepy Valley Quilts. They have lots and lots of fabric and notions and pattern books and the like. It is a small place, but the people there are friendly and helpful. The Quilted Strait used to he bere in Port Angeles and they moved to Port Gamble and I used to live in Seattle and used to go to the Undercover Quilt shop. Tiny place, but lots of fabrics and things to choose from. There's a Joann fabrics in Burien which is south of Seattle. I think there is one other fabric store in burien also, but I don't rmemeber the name of it. HAve a great trip, Huggies, Fay

Oh yes! I have no idea where Pacific Fabrics is as ours closed (GREAT deals that week!), but our store was rather large and had wonderful fabrics!
|
There is a great little quilt shop (Undercover Quilts) near Pike's Place Market near the restaurant.
Over the Rainbow (online shop) is on Camano Island (about an 1 hr away). If you call her, sometimes you can visit (http://overrainbow.com/). I was going to try and visit the last time we were in Seattle, but we didn't have a car. |
I will be visiting my daughter on Whidbey Island in September! Any specific shop recommendations for Whidbey? Some listed here are nearby so I already have a list started!
Jackie |
I went to Undercover Quilts today and got a few batiks. She had so many beautiful fabrics it was hard to choose. I'm hoping to get to a few other shops as the week progresses. Thanks for all your suggestions. Kathy

While in the Chehalis area checking out Sisters, there is also Quilters Junction in the Fairway Center just a couple miles north.
|
I too live in Puyallup and the Quilt Barn is a great shop and the people are very helpful. They are on East Main in an industrial area towards Sumner. They have enlarged their shop so you have a large selection.

Bayside Quilting in Olympia - My hometown! :) http://www.baysidequilting.com/
Gee Gee's in Yelm - about 30 minutes away from Olympia or Tacoma - http://geegeesquilting.com/ |
There are still Pacific Fabrics stores in 5 locations around the Seattle area. I think you would enjoy those. Locally owned and great quality stuff. I do happen to work for them, but I was a customer long before I was an employee and it was always my favorite!

I like a little shop in Pike Place, and have taken the ferry across the bay to Bremerton(?) for a visit to their quaint little quilt shop. My favorite place when I come to the Sew Expo (usually held the end of Feb/first of March in Pullyallup) is to hang out at Pacific Fabric and Crafts. Love those ladies! I think they have a shop hop in the Seattle area, not sure when, but enjoy!!

Get yourself out to Bellevue to Quiltworks Northwest. It is close to Seattle and easy to find. Lots of selection. |
