I use steam a seam 2 lite and like it alot. But it seems wasteful to use so much of it like with a sunbonnet sue when you only need it around the edges basically.
I've read where people cut the middle out of large appliques so it's just around the edges. Do you use the cut out pieces for other projects? do you make smaller pieces of the same applique? I recently received the accuqult sunbonnet's. What are your tips with this die? does it really matter if I cut with the grain of the fabric? |
Think someone in the applique thread can help you. Here's the link:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1023 You can also search our board for applique fusible tutorials. Hope this helps. |
There's an applique thread? Cool I didn't know that. Thanks for the link.

Yes, some people prefer a thread made specifically for appliqueing. However, Merry means, in this case, thread to be subject matter being discussed. Hope we have not confused you.

But back to thread, as in spools to sew with, I like to use the veragated threads and the machine applique stitch. Makes it go so quickly but yet still looks hand sewn to the casual observer. |
I didnt know there was a " thread" ( section ) for applique either!!
Thanks |

I have just used fusible around the edges of some appliques. I save the cut out parts for other projects.
You really only need what is around the edges, and it does make the rest of the applique much softer. I have even cut out the excess backing fabric when I am done stitching the appliques down. It makes for an even softer quilt top :D:D:D |
