self binding quilt on missouri star quilt co question
I just love this quilt. Plan on making a couple for my nephew and his wife who are expecting munchkin #2 in a couple of months. I bought the most adorable flannel at Joann's today for it and now i am stumped - should i prewash it first or since it is entirely flannel wash it after? i bought extra material to hopefully get a bib or two out of it and maybe some burp cloths as well. I should note that i don't have a washing machine here at the house so it woulld mean either laundromat trip or maybe using my neighbor's machine (which she doesn't care)

I would wash it first. Flannels can shrink when washed.

I just made a couple of these earlier this week and I did wash the fabric in hot water before I made them. If you don't they may look out of shape after you make them and wash them. A hassle for you, but I think you will be happier with the results.

i would wash it. if you happen to place some fabric one way and another 90 degrees to it, it could pull wonky. i did a test one time and my fabric shrank a different amount wof than lof. or if you use different flannels, they can shrink at different rates.

Measure, wash, dry. Repeat until it stops shrinking. I've had flannels take 3 washings.

I have made alot of theese as gifts. I have not pre-washed the fabric. I have been told that they are better that the ones from stores. Bigger & heavier.

I would run zig zag along raw edges and wash and dry!
