I bought a self-sharping ruler, thinking I would save money!!! Well, such is not the luck.....I started using it with a good blade and within 10 min. the blade started to miss cutting. I kept trying and ended up ruining a good blade. Has any one else had this problem, or am I using it wrong??
I love this site and have learned so much... Bette

I had asked if anyone had ever used these and if they were good a couple of months ago. This is the first I've ever seen of anyone using them. Good to know.
If you want to save money on blades to to harborfrieght.com and order some carpet blades. They come 2 per pkg for $1.99 and they're the same thing as the 45mm blades that most of us use. I've been using one for quite some time now and they work fine. If you can't find them, purchase the yellow carpet cutter. It's $3.99 and comes with 3 blades---still cheaper than the LQS.

I saw a demo of these rulers. I didn't ask questions but I noticed she was very careful getting the cutter lined up with the ruler before cutting. It's suppose to make a grinding sort of sound when cutting. If you hold your ruler at wrong angle the edge could get nicked.

The first thing I would do is call where you purchased the rulers.

I have two of them. The larger 6x24 is great and I can see marks on the blade from contact with the "diamond" edge. And the blade does feel sharper. The measurements seem accurate. On the 4x8 I had to return one because ? the diamond edge was not seated all the way in the ruler's edge so it added about a hair's width. I exchanged it and measured a new one with the saleslady at the store and it seemed OK, but in actual use, cutting my 1/4" seam allowance its the same tiny overage. The diamond edge also slops outward at the bottom. So that's the second one I've gotten. May contact manufacturer because accuracy is the main factor in cutting as we all know.
