Selling quilt top on ebay
 

I am thing of making some money on Ebay but I have never sold anything there. If anyone has done it before I would appreciate a reply. Is it hard to sell a quilt top on ebay? How much should I ask? Here is a similar quilt I would like to make. Thanks for reading.

Read the Ebay rules. They et a percentage r fee fr each sae.

Do a search on Ebay fr similar tems...ths will give you an idea of hw to rice it. Look for closed transactions of simiar sales. That info should give you an idea of what people were willing to ay.

I have sold things on Ebay for over 10 years. Rules continually change, and the fees have gone up over time. For a person just starting, I would recommend buying a few things on Ebay first, so that you can establish a "feedback" rating and get the hang of how things work.

Several years ago I sold a few quilts on Ebay for a friend. Because people cannot see the quality of workmanship from a picture of the whole quilt, it is advisable to take many close up pictures of the stitches, corners, etc. Imagine the risk a buyer has in buying a quilt sight unseen. I would hesitate to do it myself.

On the other hand, I have sold many vintage quilt tops successfully on Ebay. Again, close-up pictures are a must, and definitely get one of the back side, so that people can see the workmanship.

Thank you very much Dayle. I was wondering if I would be better off just selling the 2.5 inch squares I have instead of selling as a quilt top. I looked at Ebay and lots of people just do that. Looks like it might make more money that way

Well if you notice some of those tops don't even cover the cost of material let alone time. A double wedding ring for that little?? The high dollar tops (high for ebay) don't have any bids.If you are looking for an income I don't think that will do it unless you have a source of free material, but that's my opinion. I have heard people use Esty but there again some FINISHED quilts go for less than the materials to make it.sigh

the list you show on Ebay are for vintage and they are still cheap!! If you are doing modern fabric and modern designs I would suspect the price would be cheaper, just my opinion. I have found that people do not want to pay for the "cost" of the materials, your time plus a profit.

Yes, there is a major advantage to selling the cut squares of fabric -- they are easy to mail. Ebay charges a sales commission to the seller on the ending value of the auction plus the postage. Then there are Ebay fees which are also paid by the seller. It is a good idea to do research, as you are, on how much auctions of various items tend to go for, so that you can decide if it is worth your time.
