Sewing Machines, Quilting Machines, Embroidery Machines and Sewing Rooms

Love reading about quilts but equally enjoy the posts about sewing machines, quilting machines (systems, too), embroidery machines and love the pictures of sewing rooms.

I have learned so much about the features and benefits of specific brands from this board along with the best reviews from real users.

Love to find out what is the best embroidery machine along with where to find the most fun and usable designs.

I am always interested in what brand, weight, etc of thread people find the best for their machines whether quilting, embroidering or sewing. So many I would have never tried or known about without the board.

Inspiration abounds with the pictures of sewing rooms and sewing studios. I like the sound of studio because it makes it known we really are artists and our creations are our contribution to the art world along with keeping us semi-sane!

I am a Baby Lock fan but that is because when I decided to buy a new machine a few years back they had the nicest and friendliest staff along with being the most knowledgeable people. I think all of the machines have so many wonderful features and love learning about all of them. Brand is an individual preference.

There is so much to learn from the people on this site. A wonderful place to be.

We do get passionate about our machines - I enjoy reading about what others like and what they look for in a machine. It took me a year to make the jump from my 25 year old singer to a next to the bottom of the line Bernina. Several years later it only took one visit to make the jump to the TOL Bernina. We just have to determine what we want in a machine, then get the best that we can afford.

Just this past February I bought my Janome 350e embroidery machine and absolutely love it!!! I'm still trying different threads. I've had good luck with the Exquisite brand as well as the Madeira brand. Emblibrary.com has a TON of really nice designs and offer sales quite often. It has become my "go to website" for embroidery designs.

I chose a Baby lock Ellisimo after researching all machines and haven't been disappointed. However... I overbought and wish I'd purchased an embroidery only machine and saved some money as I have another machine that I use for sewing. The only negative of some of the embroidery only machines is the hoop size. Have fun shopping.

Yesterday I was at Quilt Show and my quilting buddy and I were talking to a lady from one of the long-arm companies and we were asking about thread. She told us about the one lots of people really like on their quilting systems and it is perma-core. I haven't tried it but plan to because she said it gave the look of cotton thread (it is polyester) to quilting without the lint. Would like to hear what others think of it before I buy it.

I looked at the Ellisimo a few weeks ago. It is an amazing machine. Would love to hear what kind of projects you use your embroidery on.

Where do you find the Exquisite brand of thread? When I bought my machine they "gave" me Madeira thread. I really like it and it stitches out well just a bit pricey.

Bernina seems to be the favorite machines for lots of quilters and embroiders. What features are you especially partial to using?
