I have recently been blessed with 5 yards of pale blue minkee material and I am wondering what the best way to sew with it is. It is going to go into a blanket to go on my king size bed so 5 yards will be more than enough. What is the easiest way to sew some regular cotton blocks to it? Should I prewash it? Does it shed or shrink? Do I wash in hot / warm / or cold water? So far I am only going to have to have one seam down the middle to sew two 2 1/2 yard pieces together so that they will fit across my bed. I have a king size bed. I want to make some quilt blocks to sew to it and don't have a clue as to what the best way to do this would be. Is there anyone here on the board that has experience sewing with minkee that can help me out? I would be eternally grateful for any and all assistance.

I recently saw a cute one that was a 4-patch, made for a baby, but it could be done in any size. The square was cut 8 1/2" and then after being put together had quilting done in each square. I have not worked with minkee, but I understand it does stretch a bit, but not bad. The 4-patch squares were done in flannel.

I wouldn't prewash it. It will shed only where you cut it. It does stretch a little so don't use a block with little pieces. It kinda hard to work with then. It is worth the time to use it. It is so soft and comfy.

I use a walking foot when I sew on minkee, works really well.

If you have to sew it together in some way to make it wider, make sure the nap goes in the same direction, so when you pet it, its smooth in the same direction, and not going in two different ways.

I have only given it to the LQS long arm quilter and used it as backing for a little missionary child, so soft...
