For the past couple of years I picked up some very nice out of fashion discarded furs. Started remodeling a mink into a long vest for myself. Turned out great so did some more to sell.
Does anyone else work with furs and do you have any suggestions. I use a heavy leather needle with heavy thread and so far my learn as you go is working out but real tips from real crafts people could help. I love to experiment, even thought about a fur throw.

Will be watching this as well. A friend has a couple tuppers of various sized fur pieces. Not sure how much if any is the real thing but it is some pretty stuff! We've talked about doing a fur throw but I haven't been ready to tackle it.

I've made leather vests. I intentionally used cotton thread with the thought that if there was a strain on the seams the thread would break. I was afraid that the heavy thread would rip the leather and I don't know how to mend leather.

With the animal rights activists, I would be careful before I would wear a real fur in public. They might throw paint first and listen to the story of its being a vintage fur later.

The thread I use is quilt thread. I do not like using on my machine. Thought someone could let me know what to use.

Regarding the animal activists, I will wear my vest and worry about them later.
