Found this on my e-mail tonight.
Wow what a room. Hope the attachment works. http://www.bhg.com/crafts/craft-stor...oom-makeover/? |
Oh, my! What a room!
|
WOW! I wish!! LOL
|
Wow! That's not a real room!. There's no thread on the floor, no projects out and where does she cut out. Really like the color on the walls.

Oh wow! How can I get a room like that?
|
Who needs a room like that? I would be happy with her BEFORE room.

Cool room
|
I would absolutely love to have a sewing room like that instead of having my machine on the dining room table.
|
Very NICE room! But I liked the "before" better -- the "after" looked too nice to mess up...

Professional seamstress? Forgive my nasty suspicious mind, but I doubt it. She has one little countertop with one little inset sewing machine and a mini ironing board. No serger (although you see it in the before pictures) and no real storage. (Pretty pegboards with a couple dozen neat spools of rayon thread and a bunch of scrapbooking scissors don't count.) She has a nifty little tilt drawer with no space at all for all of the gadgets we need for using and maintaining a sewing machine. No cutting table at all, as far as I can see. More thought has been put into displaying pretty jars of buttons and decorative pincushions than accessible storage for real thread. You can see some of her thread in the before pics. (I use 5 rubbermaid drawers for storing thread.) Where are her patterns? (I use 12 rubbermaid drawers for commercial patterns and two oversized binders for my personally-drafted patterns.) Business records? COMPUTER?? If she only sells locally, she should have mirrors and a setup for fittings, and if she sells by mail, she would have shipping supplies.
She may have a lot of notions and supplies stored in the cabinets, but that beautiful room is just that -- a beautiful room. It's not functional. What I did like: I really liked her garbage system |
Of course, the real tip-off is that there is no seam ripper in that little drawer by the sewing machine.
|
Beautiful room, however I do agree with Cathe.
|
Yep very pretty to look at but...I agree not very functional at least not for this sewer...I was hoping to see some REAL useful stuff....BHG is great for showing pics like that...I want the meat n pototes...But I thank-you for sharing...nothing against pretty i just need useful.

I didn't like this room very much, sorry. It looks pretty and the colors are nice, but I agree that there's very little work space. I don't need a "sitting area" in a sewing room. That's seems to me to be a waste of good space. I like to have threads, scissors, and yes - even a seam ripper, etc. within arm's reach. That little tilt drawer would drive me bonkers in seconds and same with all those little square drawers. After misfiling something and looking through all those drawers to find it, I would be getting rid of them in a heartbeat. I don't have a good cutting area in my room yet, but that's next. And how many of you have to label your fabric by color? This article did serve a purpose, however. It did give all of us more ideas, both good and bad.
Boy, was that negative! I'm sorry about that. |
Well obviously, she doesn't need seam rippers because in her perfect sewing room she sews perfectly. She always keeps it looking exactly like those pictures and never makes a mess.
I'd like to see it after she's been actually working in there. |
That is such a pretty room, but after I worked in it it would be a mess and I couldn't have anyone visiting in my family room. :D :D :D :D :D
|
oooh I'm in love with that room!!! There are so many wonderful ideas to pick and choose from! One of these days I would love to have a sewing room makeover!!! I will one day!!!! I'm book marking this link for future drooling!
But saying that, yes I agree with some of you that its not a very functional room at least for what we do, but I do like the little storage ideas and the way some things are displayed. I would like a cutsie room, but also a functional cutsie room!!! :) |
M. Sindelar's family/sewing room doesn't do anything for me, BUT in the Related Links there is a garage makeover sewing room that is to die for. It is a dream space!
|
your joking, right? nobody works in that room. there's no place to lay anything out. where's her real stash? where's her cat?
that looks bigger than any room in my house. who furnishes a sewing room for a garden party? do they write these things for non-sewers? it's cute but it's missing almost all the essentials. and i miss the mess of a real working, functioning room. remember, a tidy room is the sign of a dysfunctional mind. i am a genious.   |
Craftiladi!!! I just looooove your avatar!! I have that panel here in my stash! I haven't got round to doing anything with it yet!!!
|
I could see how some people would love it...very pretty, very feminine highly organised and clutter free. Have to confess the industrial grunge loving eclectic collector in me would probably go stark staring mad if compelled to spend more than five minutes in there...Did smile when I saw the little dust-buster vac....no way would that clean up a micron of the mess me and my fur-people make when on a creative jag.
|
I definitely like it.....but this is coming from someone who has to move her sewing room from the storage closet to the bedroom in our little apartment when i want to work on a quilt and back and forth and back and forth.... ill just take the space she can keep the room!
