I can't seem to control the speed of my sewing machine. A friend suggested I make sure I'm never wearing shoes when I sew (Hi, Ann!), but I still can't manage to sew slowly. Any suggestions? Is there something about a dimmer switch??

there is some thing wrong in the foot pedal. Take it in and have it repaired. mine used to be that way.

It could be you or the foot pedal.

You might want to try using the pedal upside down, of a nonslide surface, and pretend you are driving your car through road construction.

Your local sewing machine repair person should be able to tell you if it is a pedal problem.

You didn't mention what kind of machine it is, but some machines have a place where you can turn down the speed of the machine.

i agree, what kind of machine do you have there might be a switch or dial. Mine adjust the stitch width as well as controls speed

My Brother has the speed control on the front and I try to leave it in the middle , as I tend to be a pedal masher  LOL

If you don't have that adjustment , try using your opposite foot so you don't press as hard ?

Also try raising your heel up on a block of wood to change the angle that your foot lies on the pedal. More horizontal can give you more control and sensitivity. Works for me anyway.

I don't think it's a problem with the machine. I just can't seem to control my heavy foot. No one heard that about a dimmer switch?

By the way, it's a Viking Emerald 116 - a very basic starter machine.

I don't know how to put the link in this message, but the title of the post you may be looking for is "Dimmer Switch....Who knew?" and it was posted on August 4th of this year.

Go to the top of this page where it says "Search". Type in "dimmer switch" and you'll see the post.
