I am thinking how to quilt this wonderful photo taken two years ago at Myrtle Beach. I have been reading how to do picture quilting. and love it. Mine will not be the little bitty pieces but not all appliqued either.. Have ordered some special ocean fabric and will cut and piece to make it better.. the sky and rising sun will be interesting to piece and blend.

Boy do I need any hints and instruction on doing this..

Wow, what a shot. Is that DH and son? that would make an amazing quilt. I've no idea how to do something like that, but would love to see the outcome.

One of the best books ever written on turning that type of landscape photo into quilts is Landscapes & Illusions by Joen Wolfrom. It was published in 1990, with a second printing in 1991, by C&T Publishing. ISBN is 0-914881-32-9. Check with your local library about trying to find it through ILL (inter-library loan) or get it directly from C&T as an eBook for 14.99 http://www.ctpub.com/contributorinfo.cfm?ContribID=271. Google books has a preview you can look through, too. http://books.google.com/books?id=WhU...gbs_navlinks_s Her method is easy, logical and stunning...and she teaches some great piecing techniques that you will use forevermore! ;-)

For the sky, some would hand dye their own fabric, or maybe just portions of it. There are awesome ocean prints out there now too. Soooo many options out there lol Maybe check with your local library, there are many books out there on landscape quilts.
