Sharpening scissors?

I have various brands of scissors, Friskar and Gingher and others - but I am not happy with them because they seem to need sharpening within a year. For me to get them sharpened I have to drive half an hour away and leave them for one week, then go pick them up. Is this the only way?

Is there a brand that doesn't need so much sharpening? Kal maybe, which I haven't tried?

Or do they all need sharpening every year?

I only use them for cotton fabric and thread...

Thanks for feedback,

Lainey

I bought a scissor sharpener at Wal Mart several years ago that I like. It has 2 slots that you put the scissors in and make a cutting motion. I think they were about $10. I tried them on my cheapy scissors before using them on my good scissors. It seems to get them pretty sharp. Much cheaper than sharpening service which is expensive and hard to find.

Gingher sells a sharpening stone that I have and use. I've never had to send my scissors out and they're probably 15 years old or older.

I've had two pair of Gingher scissors for about 40 years and they are just now needing to be sharpened. If you send your Ginghers to them they will sharpen them for free, or so I've been told. I really need to do that.

I just buy inexpensive scissors and use them until they get dull and replace them with a new pair.

A while back, I googled how to sharpen scissors? There were some real good tutorials. I first did some old cheapies and they were sharper than new. I then ventured to my better scissrs. Now I only use a sharp pair of scissors, so much better on the hands.
