I just finished piecing a quilt top for a friend. Very easy pattern made from a jelly roll. I have left over fabric in 10" squares that I used to make another quilt and it's the same fabric line.
What do you think about sewing 9 10" blocks together do a D9P and stick that pattern in the middle of the back of the quilt. (Kinda like having 2 quilts in one) Here's a pic. of the top. quilt top |
thats pretty how about pillow cases with the left over fabric?
sounds like a good idea.
I think it sounds pretty cool. I see a lot of pieced backs on here.
I like the quilt and your idea

Great idea!

DP9 - my new favorite. I think it would look great.

Your quilt is fabulous! I think it sounds like a fantastic idea! I enjoy making two sided quilts. Thanks for sharing.

I love to do pieced backs. Go for it.
I like pieced backs too but I think if it were me I would prefer a few of the same type of blocks on the back.
I adore, adore, adore pieced backs!! I was coming up in the quilting world when "back art" was coming into it's own and now almost always do this on my quilts.
Go for it!! Jan in VA |

nice quilt

Beautiful quilt and I love your idea. I also like the idea of the pillowcases.
Yes, yes, yes! I love using my leftovers on the backs! I'm not a scrapper, so it let's me use every last piece and not feel guilty for wasting fabric!
what's D9P and how would you match the back for quilting purposes?
But how would you quilt it since the design most likely would not line up its positions with the front?
A pieced back sounds great but pillow cases might be even better
I think that's a great idea. I love pieced backs.
I'd keep the fabric for another quilt top.
Too pretty for a backing. I like to use larger pieces of fabric with as few seams as possible for quilt backings. Less seams to pull out. And if the backing isn't exactly straight your blocks will be crooked. But its your quilt, do as you like. :D |

Love your quilt, gorgeous! Being new I have 2 questions: What is that pattern and also, when choosing a pieced back how do you determine the actual quilting pattern? Does one disregard the backing and quilt according to the quilt front pattern only? OR do you try to take both patterns into considerstion? In essence, trying to match the quilting design to both front and back layers? Oh, I hope what Im asking makes sense.

Beautiful and your idea is a great one.
throw pillows or shams comes to mind
I think that would look great.
The back of my next quilt will also have some of the pieces in it from the front. Haven't done one yet and the more I see the more I like it.
