The last baby quilt I made and posted had some chenille in it that came from the cheater kits from Joann's and I added my fabric's to make it bigger. I did not wash the pc cause it was so small. I got a yard and a half of white chenille washed it twice and have taken a Baseball size amount of lint out of my dryer. What have I done to my appliances? I'm still drying it and removing lint. DOES THIS EVER STOP? Now I ask is this really good for a baby, and what about allergies? This is for my new grandbaby to be in March. It's a girl, can't wait. I'm not using it unless you convince me otherwise. HELP!!!! :( :?: :shock:

I work with chenille all the time. When it is wet, going into the dryer, it sheds. When it is cut, it sheds. When it is in normal, dry use, it is fine...Make it up for the baby!

I have covered the whole back of quilts with chenille for not only my own child but for my husbands best friends new baby. I did wasn the quilt several times after it was done, and got a LOT of lent out of the washer AND dryer. I think it took about three or four washes for it to stop shedding. I have not had a problem with my (almost) five month old getting sick or anything from it! Dawn (my husbands friend) has not said anything about it either!

I've washed it twice and had it in the dryer for an hour both times kept checking the lint trap every 10 minutes and took out a layer each time. Seems to have really slowed down. But I am glad I did this cause what a mess it might have made on the flannel after it was done. Maybe the chenille at a LQS is better? Got this at Joann's , nice and soft now.
But thanks will start cutting up tonight, think this is going to be really cute.

I think that all chenille will do that...it is the nature of the fraying process :wink: It just needs to be washed and dried several times to get the little bits all out.

You can dampen the chenille after the quilt is made...take a stiff brush to it and rub in a circular motion and it will get a lot of the threads out so that when you wash and dry it there will not be so much lint in your dryer.
