show me your red white and blue quilts please?
I'm looking for inspiration for a red white & blue quilt!

Watching this thread as I, too, need some inspiration for a rw&b quilt pattern. Our local fairboard is asking for quilts to present to Purple Heart recipients of our county. And they want them by Sept. !

Eleanor Burns has a pattern called A Better Star For All Seasons.
Normaly I do not buy a single pattern but I fell in love with this one. Made a Christmas quilt from it and now plan on doing a red white and blue one. Got it at Joanns with a coupon. My photo software is not working right now so cannot post a picture. It is large and small stars with squares. |
My avatar is my red, white and blue quilt. It's a drunkard's path I made a few years ago, and one of my favorites.

This is my "Stars over Texas" quilt. I flew to Austin and picked up the fabric and pattern there. It's more of a cream color than a white.

Do a search for "patriotic quilts" or "red white and blue" quilts - quite a few should show up -

Wow, what a great quilt Nabobw, I'm sure the widow loves the quilt and your salute to her fallen warrior....

Bonnie Hunter has a great scrap pattern on her site at:
http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/...h-of-july.html My Quilt of Valor group made up this one for a wounded soldier from her pattern: |
Page 20 of the new Quilt mag has one that is pretty, also in the new American Patchwork & Quilting on page 33 has a beauty called Star search.

Last year there was a red, white & blue swap block here. Look there you might find ideas, I did finish mine into a King size, but cannot post for a couple of weeks.
Good Luck |

My grandson's quilt made when he sent to to the mideast with the Navy. I like the Friendship Stars, but I suppose it's really scrappy, not RWB.

I made this one for my dad who is a Korean War vet last year for Christmas. Its cream rather than white because i wanted a bit of an antique look. I FMQ'd words of hope all along the borders.

I made this quilt, along with 11 others, from donated blocks and material for my daughter (and her "guys") upon their return from Afghanistan.

My Scrappy RWB Pinwheel

Here's mine....still in progress. Well, I guess it's officially a UFO since I haven't worked on it lately. I had a great fabric for a border but it faded horribly when I washed it, so I need to find a replacement for it. This pattern came from the Scrap Basket Surprises book by Kim Brackett. I used a jelly roll plus a little extra from my stash to work in more fabrics.

Mine, a scrappy RWB feel, made in reproduction fabrics with emphasis on military feel in the prints.

Okay, this is my own pattern and it was only my second quilt so please be kind and enjoy.

Fons and Porter's love of quilting magazine (march/april issue) has a pattern that I hope to be able to complete when I am a grown up quilter! LOL. It is really nice.

This is my red white and blue quilt done for the Citizen Sam project. It was scrappy - at least 10 different fabrics. I used Bonnie Hunters' strip twist pattern and did red/blue instead of light/dark.

Here are some quilts that I have in my QOV folder. I, too, LOVE RWB quilts!

My latest RWB was done with the twister tool. However, I'm clueless when it comes to posting pictures, so you'll just have to imagine how pretty it is!

Jan - Love your Bow Ties!
Here's one that I started recently while at a Bonnie Hunter (quiltville.com) workshop. Keep in mind that these are just slapped on my "design wall" - none of the wedges are sewn together yet and I have a few more blocks to make. This is a free pattern @ www.quiltville.com. Usually done in completely scrappy colors, I wanted something a little more controlled and went with patriotic. These are super quick and easy - the only place you match anything is at the first piece (in my case, the center red). After that, it's slap-dash, no matching of seams. You could do a couple of them by September with no problem! I wanted a little gold, but have made my points of gold too large, making the gold stand out more than I intended. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to take all of them off (as this is pieced on a paper foundation, the stitiches are tiny!) or just live with it as it is. |
