Signing a quilt
 

I am working on my very first ever quilt. A combination of cross stitch and quilting. An acquaintance told me not to forget to sign it. Does everyone sign their quilts? If so what is the best recommended way to sign a quilt? I've been given quilts through the years and none were signed. Thanks for advice.

well i think they meant to put a label on it. you could do a search in Yahoo for signed quilt labels and click on Images, then on search. you can see examples. I forget to put labels on mine though. it's a good practice to do, so get with it.
you could do one with embroidery or use Micron Pigma pens size .05 to sign (just heat set with iron). there are colored pens and such out there to use too if you want to do more coloring.

I don't know so much about " signing" but most ppl here seem to attach a label that tells who made it, date sometimes other info such as name of block, who it is for and why or a poem or verse.... it's really up to you...

Sometimes I'll actually sign my name and date, using a Micron Pigma pen, in a seam allowance down in the lower left corner. If my quilt were ever stolen I could prove it was mine by checking that seam. You could also do that along the binding seam allowance.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I definitely will get a label for this quilt when I finish it. It is for my youngest child (21yrs) who lost everything in a fire in March. He seems to have become sentimental about everything. So, I decided to try my hand at quilting. I will post a pic when I finish.

What a good idea to make a quilt for your child. So many people have lost everything in fires this Spring and Summer. Quilts will be loved by all who receive them.
