I keep trying to find information on silk batting.

All I can find are the manufacturer's blurbs (quilts magnificently!) or "informational" blurbs elsewhere that say something to the effect of:

"silk batting requires special techniques and handling, so be sure you learn about it first."

What kind of special handling? Techniques? Exactly where and how am I supposed to learn about it if no one has any stinkin' information?? I've googled until I'm blue in the face and so much so that now I'm getting baseball results! (batting- you know...)

So does anyone here have any information on using/working with silk batting? I'm hoping! No one else seems to! :mrgreen:

I have used a blend with silk in it...Quilters Dream Orient. I loved it! It's too pricey for me though. I just happened to get a good deal on a crib sized one so I tried it out. If I could find a good deal, I'd use it more often.

I use Tuscany silk batting. I never read the package so I don't know about special techniques or handling of it. I use it as any other batting. I like it for handquilting and machine quilting. The stitches look so much better when using the silk or wool batting. I toss the quilts in the wash as usual, they all look fine. If you find out the special techniques and handling, let me know.

I wouldn't use it ordinarily, but the quilt I'm working on currently is a present for my husband- it'll be on our bed, and the front and the backing are a gorgeous shimmery crepe with embroidery and satin applique...I want this to be a really luxurious thing!

ive used dream orient from the dream company= it is a wonderful batt- needles great- hand or machine- give great definition- is a joy to work with- washable- wonderful- i don't know about any special handling required- just follow the guidelines for recommended minimum quilting
you will not be disappointed- it is buttery soft and luxurious---on the top 3 list for me (wool is number one)
i think the dream batt company has lots of information on it's wonderful batts- silks, wools, bamboos, and even cottons & poly's they are all.... a dream to work with :thumbup:
