I was at a local antique mall and saw a Singer Featherweight, Catalog 3-110 2/1935 fpr $375 with a carrying case and box of attachments and feet.

My question is that a good price or overpriced for this machine? It was in good shape, well cared for but some of the gold was worn off. I wish I had a camera with me so I could post a picture but if anyone would be interested I could give you the name and number of the antique mall here in Maine.

That is a GOOD price, but not a GREAT price. For that price I would expect ALL the attachments and feet, the original owner's manual, the original carrying case and not a lot of wear on the gold nor many pin scratches on the throat plate. Featherweights are not THAT hard to find-you should be able to get one for under $300.

I'm thinking that 1935 is the first issue...if that matters to you. If you want the machine and can afford it, then I say "Sold". There will likely come a better deal...but nothing is certain, now is it? Do you want it to use or as an "investment"? Be happy with your decision...life is short!

$300 is a great price for a well maintained FW with case and some attachments. The attachments are available to buy and not that expensive. $350 is not a bad price if you know you won't be seeing one again for sale in long time. Not much can go wrong with a FW other then cosmetic. They are easy to fix and maintain. I've seen excellent condition FW with all attachements sell for $600. I have the white (celery) FW and the white ones are smaller than the black ones for some reason. It's so darn cute! and sews like a dream.

I would get the Featherweight for $375 with all you would be getting. It depends on the condition it's in, of course. They can be cheaper but not in good shape or don't have all the accessories and case.

I'm not interested in buying it myself but curiosity got the better of me and I wondered if that was a good price. It is a cute little machine with all the feet, etc. It had a portable carrying case and I think it would be good to take to classes since it's not heavy but money is tight and I can think of tons of things I'd use more, such as fabric, fabric and fabric.

I think the price varies considerably depending on where you live. The East Coast seems to have a lot more featherweights than the midwest. I'm thinking population density plays a big role, especially population density at the time featherweights were sold new.

try shopping goodwill. they always have lots.

I have had mine since college. My mom bought it for me. She paid $75.00. I was able to make all my own clothes on it for quite a few years and once even made a canvas boat cover. It still runs perfect.
