Hi all. I have a very basic Singer sewing machine, it's pretty old and I have been thinking of purchasing a new machine. It works well for the most part, every machine has it's quirks (a.k.a. hiccups because sometimes mine will be fine and then have a streak of the "angries") - but I would like some newer and more advanced options.

Does anyone have tips on brands? What kind of machine do you have? If you like your machine, please say why. I'd love to gain insight on different brands.

I have a Janome/New Home MX3123, in fact I have two of them. Have had one for 4 yrs., very good sewing machine. Has 23 different stitches,
makes button holes. Was under $300. bought online. Nancy

I have a Brother CS-6000 that I got from Walmart. It came with all sewing feet and quilting walking foot. I have made a lot of my quilting on it for the past 2 years. I haven't had any problems yet

I think your question should come with what your willing to spend on a machine. You'll get alot of feedback and advice. But state what YOUR price range is. Just a suggestion.

My machines are all old, mostly singer and one kenmore the youngest is 1970. I love these and would never part with them. Mine have problems mostly when I have been sewing too long or am in a hurry. I can think of a couple of features I would want in a new machine, needle that threads itself and botton-wholer and button sewer.; also a bobbin that winds when needed.....good luck :wink:

i bought a PFAFF 2056 almost 3 yrs ago. i love it but wouldn't get such a fancy one again. i don't really need this much machine.

I have three Janome's, and love them all. My advice is to go try some out at your local shop. Tell them what price range you are willing to pay. Also will the dealer service your machine. There is a lot of nice machines with a lot of good features. I like needle up needle down feature, needle threader, my eyes are not what they used to be. sometimes the dealers have a trade -in they are willing to sell at a reasonable price. My last machine was a "demo" so I got it at half price, so check all your options. Ps. Keep the singer as a back-up. Marge

I have a Kenmore I've had since 1977 and had it service the first time just here recently. Until then I'd just cleaned and oil it regular myself, but it was starting to have a pecking sound. After the sevicing (which was just a really deep cleaning/oiling and attending to the flywheel so the needle would be still when I fill the bobbin) it is good to go miles of stitches yet. However I still purchased me a new Janome 3022 online from Hancocks when they ran a special. It had all the new features I was interested in having, no embroidary (didn't want that). I wanted the needle up/down, threader, twin needle capebility, so on & etc. Too many to list. They may even still have the sale going on at www.hancockfabrics.com.
