Singer XL 100 embroidery machine?
 

Hi. I've been searching for info and pics of this machine. There is a local lady selling hers with all attachments and some cards for $200. Is that a good deal? She said that it works great just selling because hubby got her a new machine. I would love any info on this. Been wanting an embroidery machine for awhile. I just don't want a lemon! Meeting up in a few days to check it out. Thanks for any help!

I did and that is where my confusion starts. I kept seeing Quantum or something else within the searches. None of them looked the machine she pictured, so I asked if if it was any of those and she said no. I didn't find it listed the way she wrote it in the ad. I guess that I'll just hold off until later this week to see it. Thanks for the advice, Gladys!

I used to have a Singer XL 1000. It was a very nice machine, but my motherboard went out and I readied it for a Bernina.

As far as I know Singer embroidery machines have to be connected to a computer to work. Not just to transfer designs, but for operation of the machine. If you are running Windows 8 they were working on a patch for my sister's brand new machine which she received for Christmas. She was going to have to buy an old laptop computer to use with her machine. Too much trouble as far as my opinion goes.

Hmm, that does sound like way too much trouble to me, too. I have a laptop, but no room for all of that in my little sewing room.
I was kind of excited about it, but my feelings are getting kind if scrambled on the whole deal. I guess that I will see after looking at the machine. It's not like I'd use every day, so it may still be fine. Thanks for the help, everyone!

I have a Singer Futura xl 400. It has to be connected to the computer to do hoop-type embroidery but not general sewing. Mine sews beautiful regular straight, zigzags, and 30-40 regular type embellishment stitches. It sews in reverse, has a tack design, can set the needle to stay down or up and has a needle threader built in. It has 6 LED lights. I have a Viking Designer 1 and bought the Singer as a back-up because I can't justify $3000 to $10000 for a new Viking. Haven't tried embroidery on the Futura yet. If you want to do embroidery in hoops on the Futura, you must use the computer but otherwise, not for just regular sewing. Hope that helps...

Personally speaking, I wouldn't buy a Singer newer than the 1960's.

Well, I met with the woman today. It is an older model('94 or '95). It had the "amazing box" that goes to the computer, several of the embroidery cards, extra feet and both hoop sizes. It seems to work just fine, so I bought it!
I am hoping to not fall into buyers remorse. I really did not need another sewing machine, but something for embroidery for making my quilt labels. I have put it in my sewing room and will read through the manual thoroughly before trying it out.

If you have to have your computer connected to your embroidery machine, that is a pain, not all of us have our computers in the same room as our embroidery machine. Most embroidery machines use a flash drive, I would check that out before buying.
