I am beyond surprised my niece was given a sewing machine from someone she works with that was only used a few times. Last night I brought it home to see how it runs and if anything needs to be done to it.
After I got the jammed up thread mess from the feed dogs it runs great and makes perfect stitches. Her Mother my sister wanted me to make her some kitchen valances and I agreed to go with her to select fabric, then told her she needs to get her machine out and learn to do them herself, I am willing to go to her house and walk her through it. She said if Amie (my neice) was going to learn she might as well learn too !!! I am hoping they both enjoy it as much as I do, they may even decide to quilt !!! |
That's it Bonnie, pour them a nice tall glass of the Kool-aid!

That's nice to start them out young.

very good move on telling her you would walk her thru making her own curtains. Because you know if you do them, there will be another task she needs sewn very soon. I even taught my DH to sew last week, he made his first vest, and it was even lined. I did have to help him quite a bit, but it was very fun teaching him.

Very nice they can learn together. Tell them to check with Adult Ed in your area and see if they offer any sewing classes.
