I think I am going to drive myself crazy trying to decide what size to do this quilt (among other things)!

Heres the deal, I am wanting to start a quilt for my husband I will attach a picture of the pattern I made below. He is a rather large guy so I want to make it really big for him. I can use 10.5 inches uneven log cabin blocks or I can use 14 inches uneven log cabin blocks! For the 10.5 inch block finshed logs would be two sizes 1.5 inches and .75 inch. For the 14 inch block finished logs would be 2 inches and 1 inch.

So my question is do I make 48 14 inch blocks or 63 10.5 inch blocks? I am so affraid that a 14 inch block is going to look big and distort the pattern, yet I am afraid the 10.5 inch block is going to be to small and look busy/messy with there being so many of them.

Anyways, opinions please
Thank you,
Danielle

I would not try sewing 3/4" logs, it's going to be so tiny when you finish the slightest flaw is going to show, besides it's just a pian.

Love the pattern! You shouldn't worry about the pattern being distorted, you can see on your drawing what it will look like.
I like the bigger blocks simply because I like the size of the finished quilt made with them.

Personally I would go for the larger blocks as I don’t really see that much difference in the pattern and it will be slightly easier to work with the 2 and 1 inch pieces (and you don’t have to make as many blocks). Now if I saw a big difference in the patterns, I would say stick with the smaller, but seeing as the larger really does not look distorted at all, I would go with the bigger myself. Can’t wait to see it!! Where did you get the pattern? I really like it!

but is it going to look weird with logs that big? thats my main concern!

Thanks for all the suggestions I am thinking bigger is better!

I don't think bigger will look weird. I think it will suit the size of the quilt!

My husband always says "Go big or go home" so I would say bigger blocks definitely

Do you mind if I use your idea? My hubby is also an extreme patriot and I know he would love this. The only thing is I would then have to find out how to make and uneven log cabin...
