If I were to save scraps for anyone who works with small pieces, what's the minimum size? I usually pitch anything under 1 1/2 inches wide by at least 3 inches long. Today's apron's scraps are a white on black print - not very big because I was short 3/8 of a yard of fabric and had to do some creative cutting. I have way too much fabric to save more for no reason.

I think people can use any size scraps - check for "crumbs" on the classified section.
The size you are throwing out, a lot of people would like.

I don't do crumbs - yet - but if I remember anything under 1" sq is a crumb. Stamp quilt blocks are usually 1.5" sq. So anything bigger than an inch each way gets put in the box. I figure who ever is going to use them can figure out what is too small.

I started saving scraps - I used to only save bigger pieces - but now I save anything over 1" - I have a big plastic jar on the floor beside my sewing machine and a plastic bin on my cutting board - I just toss in there. I never thought I would use anything small but now when I see all of these awesome crumb quilts - I save .... just in cae

I use anything 1" on up, I use them for mosaic quilts.

I save my small bits for "starters" and "enders" when sewing seams so the fabric doesn't get caught up in the feed dogs.

I use any size of leftovers. I usually sew them on a long peice of fabric, then cut the long fabric peice the size of the scrap and sew it to another long string, cut, sew again until I end up with a 6 1/2 inch block. I love scrappy quilting. Sewing the peices together is a calming and pleasurable activity.

Save those crumbs! Look on quiltville for good ideas to make crumb blocks if you need ideas. I usually save anything that would be big enough to show a color after the seams are off.

But I need to warn all of you. . .!!! Those crumb quilts are adictive! Just one more piece, I say. Just two more blocks, I say. Just trim the edges on this new one. . . Beware!!

My children will piece them together in no time, I will cut, they will piece them. What a wonderful family project!
