sizes
can anyone tell me , what size is a lap quilt?????? thanks, molly

I would say 52x70 would be a good size.

The size seems to be a personal choice. I make mine just a little smaller than a twin size. I like to cover my body not just my lap. Check out some patterns and see what you like and who will be using it.

Our group makes them anywhere from 42" to 50" wide and up to 60 to 70" long. There really aren't any quilting police so make it whatever size you want.
|
Our church wants 45X54. I like 65X65, but the one I finished Wednesday grew to 75X80+ inches. My son won't care.

Depends on the size of the lap. :p

i make car robes, laprobes, baby quilts, and most wallhangings the same size... 45 x 54 because it is ONE queen size batt cut into 4 pcs, the backing can be 45" if you pay attention or have 60" fabric (no piecing) and the numbers are products of 9, which makes 9 inch blocks easy to do with a total of 9" in borders.... easy to design for...

Sizes ... I like one I can wrap right up in ... 50x70 or larger! My OBW is only about 40x60 ... it seems so tiny in comparison. However, it's probably never going to be a "used" quilt, and more so a decorative one. As you can see, it really depends on what size you want ....... as is oft said, there's no rules in quilting! do whatever works for you! :) |
What ever you want it to be. You can pick up 6 quilting books and they all will have different sizes for lap quilts.
|
It depends on the size of the person you are giving it to. In other words, it is a personal preference.
