When you are shopping for fabric do you find yourself leaning more toward snappy or layed back colors :?: In going through my stash I find that I go for snappy 100 to 1 unless someone has asked for a specific(sp?).

cande 01-12-2010 01:40 PM

Same here. I gravitate toward bright colors

watterstide 01-12-2010 01:40 PM

snappy, mostly all the time..i love bright colors,
and i don't care for making baby blankets in the usual pinks and blues..I love them, but prefer to work with brights..!

my avitar is a baby quilt i made..brights, with balck polka dots on the ends..

Honey 01-12-2010 02:21 PM

I did a flannel baby quilt for my youngest dgs that was black with an off blue snowmen, houses and hearts. It was beautiful!!

pup&pen 01-12-2010 02:39 PM

I really like your question, it made me think. I do not have anything in my stash that would be considered bright. The closest I have is 1930's floral prints. I am a little intimidated by the brights, but maybe someday. :-D

Ditter43 01-12-2010 02:47 PM

Me too....those jewel tones grab me every time. Purples, reds. teal etc. I force myself to buy other things to balance them out, but I oh and ah at the "snappy" colored quilts!!

charismah 01-12-2010 04:31 PM

I would have to say snappy! BUt I also have to say I am always more attracted to warm colors such as reds...browns and pinks.

sandpat 01-12-2010 04:35 PM

I'm more of an earthy/jewel tone kinda' gal...but thats not to say I don't love all the other colors too...I need to break out of my comfort zone.

Crafty1 01-12-2010 04:38 PM

Sitting here thinking about it, I tend to buy warm earthy colored laid back tones more often than the snappy brights. I think the only snappy colors I have are in charm pack like Moda's Clementine and Happy Campers or when I buy box lots and bright fabrics are in there.

sewgray 01-12-2010 04:38 PM

Snappy by all means. Batiks are my favorite. Orange used to be my least favorite color but now it seems everytime I buy fabric it has some orange in it.

Jim's Gem 01-12-2010 04:41 PM

I would say snappy. I love the brights and the jewel tones, mostly in cool colors. I am severely lacking in earth tones, antique looking and shaded colors.

I totally agree  I love batiks :!: They have some of the most beautiful and vibrant colors

MadQuilter 01-12-2010 04:50 PM

RIch fall colors for me, which leads me to wonder why I bought easter egg fabric with sparkles. I must have been hungry.

MadQuilter 01-12-2010 04:50 PM

double post - sorry. don't know why the PC sometimes has a herky jerkey.

I mostly buy jewel tones too.

Barbm 01-12-2010 05:01 PM

I have everything- it all calls my name! And I listen.

My favorite- I don't know- I love them all. Have some jewel tones, some brights, some 1930s, some Civil War, etc.

I don't have a lot of browns and greens. I have 3 tubs of Christmas fabric and 2 tubs of children's prints. I'm just addicted to fabric. (Although I am adhering to my resolution of not buying fabric and using from my stash).

mountain-moma 01-12-2010 05:41 PM

Mine would be warm colors such as fall colors and oh i love green in anything (:)

shaverg 01-12-2010 05:51 PM

snappy

LindaM 01-12-2010 05:57 PM

Snappy! Brights - geometrics - batiks - jewel tones, rich and intense colours.

Hmm, but I also really like earth tones - fall colours and those gorgeous brick/red earthy tones.

Oh, and blue and yellow together.

Lime green just seems to zing up anything.

And the soft warm neutrals make me feel so cozy.

Apparently, almost anything works for me

cumberlandquiltchick 01-12-2010 06:10 PM

both! lol I love civil war and any kind of toile. I have a house full of antiques, so tend to gravitate toward traditionals. However, I also have about 30% HAPPY fabrics and pastel/girly

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-12-2010 08:27 PM

BRIGHTS!!! Or pink floral. I can't resist a pink flower.

mysacrifice 01-13-2010 07:21 AM

I like warm and cool colors and have yet to buy anything real bright. But, I'm thinking I may go a little brighter in the future.

Margie 01-13-2010 07:28 AM

I dont buy really bright colors unless it is for children. I tend to like soothing softer colors, but also like deep shades. Please keep all screaming oranges away from me lol...they make me nervous.

Margie

Barb_MO 01-13-2010 07:54 AM

I just bought sever birght prints to finish some UFOs for my g-grand, in hope that will snap them up a bit.
I usually a layed back person, so these brights (like in the quilts for kids) kinda makes me nervous too.

butterflyquilter 01-13-2010 06:44 PM

definitely jewel tones--purple is my favorite

NauDeeGal 01-13-2010 07:04 PM

Snappy have been my choices for the last few years.

Before that I tended to stay in the earthy tones!

I tend to wear bright colors also, especially work clothes.

Brings out the happy in me more, I guess! :D

chris_quilts 01-13-2010 08:30 PM

Purple is what I gravitate towards but am trying to be good and buy to fill in the gaps in my stash. I will usually buy a purple every time I go fabric shopping.

Boston1954 01-13-2010 09:06 PM

I guess you would call me laid back. I have always liked blue, but lately I find myself going for the Earth tones. Browns, tans, greens.

Charlee 01-13-2010 09:21 PM

I like "color drama"...so whatever makes that happen makes me happy! :)

tlrnhi 01-13-2010 09:56 PM

I seem to gravitate towards florals. No idea why. I have to remember that everyone doesn't always like flowers

nellebelles 01-13-2010 10:51 PM

I really like blues and yellows together, pinks and greens, etc, but wouldn't call my choices "snappy". I love earth tones, rich colors (like purple, burgundy, greens, browns, etc). I do get some brights, especially when I am making a quilt for a baby. I have inherited most of my brights from my mom and step-mom. I guess you could say that I go with what I feel the recipient would like best, unless, of course the quilt is for me or for my home.

Deecee 01-13-2010 10:59 PM

Snappy for me, plus jewel tones and anything blue.

k3n 01-14-2010 12:27 AM

When i saw your thread title, I thought you were asking about my personality!

I used to be 'laid back' - fabric wise, I mean! CWs repros, earthy tones but my horizons have been broadened by the inspiration I've had on the board and now I have brights, batiks, neons even in my stash! So I'm much more balanced these days! :-D

Ninnie 01-14-2010 04:12 AM

I love jewel tones, but also have lots of soft colors. I like reds. But I would say I have more blues than anything else. Just now starting to love the batiks!

Jingle 01-14-2010 06:13 AM

I go for earthy - browns, dark greens, cranberry, florals with these colors. If quilt is for me. I used brights in a biscuit quilt for 20 yr. old DGD, because she likes brights, had to buy them. Really I guess I do have yellows, off whites, subdued golds, pinks and purples and blues, most are what I use when giving them away.

Ditto, here! I don't much like depression-era fabric ... a bit too blah for my taste, nor do I like a lot of what I call dark and dreary fabrics all in one quilt. When I see an entire quilt of dark and dreary, I think it should be in a sod house on the prairies in the 19th century. That alone is depressing.

daria 01-14-2010 07:23 AM

I lean toward batiks they alway call to me. I have started to try prints in bold colors for quilts. As a teacher I have says it is best to push yourself out of your comfort zone to see what you can create.

Greendragon6889 01-14-2010 07:25 AM

Bright and beautiful that's me...

hokieappmom 01-14-2010 07:29 AM

I used to be very traditional with earthtones and darks, but after making my daughter's quilt (my avatar), I go for the brights now.

sweetsie 01-14-2010 08:05 AM

I guess I'm snappy, as I tend to buy bright colors. I
also am into novelity prints. They always seem to have bright
colors.
