snowballing a block
Does anyone have any advice for making the corners on a snowball block? I've tried the regular way; putting the square on the corner, sewing on the diagonal and pressing back but my just don't turn out well. They're all uneven. Please help! I just got a cute charm pack with all kinds of fruits and vegetables and I thought a bug jar quilt would look cute. I can paper piece it I suppose but I'd rather not do that. It seems like a lot of extra work. There are a lot of little squares in that package! Thank you all.

Does this help? I just searched "snowball quilt block." in youtube. |
I always had trouble with this till i took a class. Now they turn out great!
Start sewing 3 0r 4 stitches then slightly go off the line towards the corner and then gradualy get back on the line for your last 3 or 4 stiches. this gives you a little extra when floding back and then you can sq up. Hope this helps. Gale |

I sew my seam just "outside" (towards the corner) of the true diagonal to allow room for the fold. Then I trim off the square only. Now I can fold over the square to line up with the background fabric and press. Once its lined up you can trim off the bottom fabric.

If you check the newest Missouri Star Quilt Co YouTube video, Jenny has a tutorial segment on making a jar quilt.
