I'm working on a quilt for my son and he loves the Vikings so this is what I've come up with.

this was the original layout but as I was sewing it I thought it looked to boxy

so I changed the blocks around and I like this better but then I got to thinking it might be to bright for his taste so I made another change

I put in the green fabric and rearranged the corner blocks so the green extends from the center instead of the white

but in all fairness I did take this picture of the green boxy looking thing

I really like the 3rd one down best.

mamaw 10-22-2011 07:04 AM

I also like the 3rd. one best.

AlwaysQuilting 10-22-2011 07:05 AM

I like #3 too

KerryK 10-22-2011 07:07 AM

Me, too! Third one down!

dunster 10-22-2011 07:08 AM

It's nice to have lots of options, but don't over think it. They are ALL very nice, and he will LOVE whichever one you choose.

Cosy 10-22-2011 07:12 AM

definitely #3

LenaBeena 10-22-2011 07:13 AM

3rd one gets my vote. Setting frames the viking.

seasaw2mch 10-22-2011 07:21 AM

Thanks everyone, #3 was my choice as well. Now all I have to do is turn my 20" Viking head drawing into a Viking applique and hope I don't mess it up.

nance-ell 10-22-2011 07:22 AM

I'm going to be a little different. As I scrolled from #1 to #2, I definitely liked #2 better. When I scrolled to #3, I thought I liked, but I kept going back and forth over 2 and 3 and finally decided I like the crispness of the white background around the Viking. Really makes it pop and I think that's what you want for the mascot. Just one opinion among many!

So, #2 is my choice

traumaRN 10-22-2011 07:23 AM

#3

feffertim 10-22-2011 07:29 AM

I will be the lone voice here. I like #4 the best

You are right as far as it popping, the white really does that. What I'm afraid is going to happen is once I turn the head into an applique, the horns from the helmet will blend into the back ground and not show up. I'm not that good at applique as I have only done it once or twice. It would be nice to do as embroidery but this is a 24" block and my machine only does a 9" x 6" which would get lost in a block this size.

I'm not committed to anything yet on the center block (except for the Viking head), still throwing things around. Maybe I can come up with a way to incorporate both the green and the white. I will keep thinking this out.

Scissor Queen 10-22-2011 07:43 AM

Is this supposed to be the Minnesota Vikings? Why are you doing it in Green Bay colors?

patd 10-22-2011 07:47 AM

I vote for the third

khurtdvm 10-22-2011 07:55 AM

I vote #3.

blueangel 10-22-2011 08:00 AM

They are all nice but I like No.2

jmabby 10-22-2011 08:04 AM

Since it is for a boy I would take the Viking with the green background, 3rd one

Tinabodina 10-22-2011 08:05 AM

#3 is my choice!

crafty pat 10-22-2011 08:16 AM

I am also going with 3. I really like it.

EagarBeez 10-22-2011 08:24 AM

3rd one for me also

bodie358 10-22-2011 08:24 AM

3rd

ontheriver 10-22-2011 08:28 AM

They are all nice but I really like the 3rd one the best.

?? I didn't know Green Bay was the same as the Vikings!

Gold , Purple & White are Vikings, the green was added just to off set all the bright colors. More as a representation of the playing field.

I'll have looked at the Green Bay colors to see how close the colors are and yes they are Gold, White & Dark Green.

I think it's still ok to use the Green here since it represents the playing field.

quilter68 10-22-2011 08:35 AM

Like the green center.

Kitsie 10-22-2011 08:36 AM

Yep, the third one. Really a good example of how different layouts can change the look of the quilt!

I think the center background should stay one color, but not sure about the green. Or perhaps leave it white with a purple border around it. The "expanse" of it seems too big, IMO.

Love digital cameras for this. You can pull up all the different layouts on the screen at once and compare them.

Great quilt!

I'll have to go look at the Green Bay colors to see how close the colors are.

I would leave out the green if you're doing Minnesota. Green and gold are Green Bay Packer's colors and they're practically mortal enemies.

Dyan 10-22-2011 08:42 AM

I like 1

LOL I take it that will cause a lot of interesting conversation if I leave it in then. LOL Still throwing things around so I still have time to think about it but thanks for the heads up on that because I really didn't know that.

totally agree with dunster. Still the green center seems to tone the brightness a bit.

quiltsRfun 10-22-2011 08:56 AM

That's one of the problems with quilting. There are just too many choices! I think I like the third one best. But really, they're all nice. I'm sure he'll be happy with whatever you decide.

M.I.Late 10-22-2011 08:58 AM

I think you should show him these pictures and let him choose.

valsma 10-22-2011 08:59 AM

I like the third one better to. I think the green background on the viking is nice.

johanka 10-22-2011 09:05 AM

Sorry to say but not enough purple. Too much green and yellow. It makes it more a packers.
I am from Minnesota.
