i was just reading about the trees and clicked on the link to the Quilt Design Wizard site . . . you all are terrible enablers!

is this something useful to have? if you have it, is it easy to use?

Yes they have many projects available for download into the program. If you don't have the program you'll have to do the item from the picture.

My son just bought it for me for Christmas. I have played around with ti a bit and like it. It comes with lessons for you to follow so that you can get used to how the software works. I took an exsisting quilt I am working on, the pattern is in a book, and put it into the software just to play around. Then I downloaded most of the free projects. They are fun to play around with.

What I didn't like is that the extra blocks and fabric that are in the downloads are not added to the program's library. I had to open the download, save the block/fabric to favourites and then i could use them. Which I did to create a wallhanging. It also didn't give me an automatic size for a lap quilt which is something I was specifically looking for. The customer support answered my question quickly, you can customize any size, and with simple instructions.

That's all I can say for now, I've only had it a week.

Hi, I was reading the replies to the quilt block for trees and checked out the website for the Quilt Design Wizard. I am now too intrigued. But if you don't mind my asking, what does this software do? I am computer literate but my two teenagers frequently call me "technologically challenged". I am just learning to work a computerized sewing machine. Thanks, Ann.

dcurvey, could you talk more about the fabric downloads, etc?

The program has fabric examples in it that you can actually "apply" to the quilt you are designing?

How do you use "fabric downloads" that you had to save to your Favorites?

Can you copy/paste or import them into the Quilt Wizard for use?

I bought it in eBay and my son paid me back...that's how his Christmas shopping works :D It's about $30 but if you look around on ebay you can get it a bit cheaper.

Within Quilt Design Wizard there is a libraby of blocks, like pinwheel, that you can use to build your quilt. There is also a library of fabrics that you can choose so your quilt image will have a colour scheme. You use these to build a quilt design. Based upon the fabrics you chose, you get yardage estimates. Now you won't actually get them in the store but you can play around with the colours.

The free downloads each have about 2 new blocks which are not in the library. I fyou wanted to use them you would have to open the downloaded project, select the block and then add to favourites. Once added to the favourites you can then use the block in your own project. It's the same with the fabric. For the downloaded fabric to be available you have to add it to your favourites and then you can pick it from another quilt.

Picking is a matter of clicking on a block and then clicking on where you want it to go in the layout. It's easy to set 2 blocks as alternating. The same when you choose a fabric, you select by colour for instance then click on which part of the quilt you want to look that way...for instance a border.
