When browsing an online fabric store recently, I found a shop that was advertising fair trade batiks, who only dealt with companies that minimized polution, provided a fair wage to their workers and did not involve child labor in the production of their fabrics. I had never even given these considerationwhen purchasing fabric in the past, I bought if I liked it! How can I become more informed about these issues and know if a company has socially responsible practices?

Here is a link to an interesting batik company. Its Princess Mirah's Batiks. If I remember her story correctly, she actually has employed a good number of her villagers to help make the batiks. She literally saved their village by doing this. It's pretty amazing to witness that one person does make a difference on this earth :):)

I have met the gals from Bold Over Batiks, and they are also a fair trade company. Their Batiks are beautiful too.
