I am doing a quilt for someone, they will be paying for it. The backing I have is of the Florida State Seminols with the helmets. The fabric is directional. I can do it, but the seam will be right in the middle and when I load it on the frame, it will be bulkier then the rest of the quilt as it is on the rod. Anyone have experience with this?

Also, If I dont use the FSU fabric, I thought about a solid backing. I have never used solid material for my backings before. And this is for someone that is paying. I am not sure how it will look :?: THis will be going to a 5 year old boy for his bed. I want the quilt to grow with him, kwim? As he gets older, I dont want him embarassed with toy truck on the back lol or the transformers....Any suggestions would be great

I've never had a problem withteh seam on my frame. SO far it rolls just like the rest. Also I use solid backing a lot and it can be nice if matched to the front.

Yes. I thought about a garnet backing. Hmmmmm I need to think about this somemore.

I meant to say also... When I said middle of fabric I meant it would be vertical to the rod, not horizontal to it.

Just be sure to press the seam open and it should be fine on your frame.

I am the opposite.... I have only used prints on one of my quilts. The rest have had solid color backings. There is nothing wrong with either. Just a case of preference. I am considering both a WVU quilt and a Steelers quilt for family members, both of which will probably have solid color backings.
Good luck
would love to see pictures

Can you turn the quilt so that the seam is parallel.

Thank you, everyone. The quilt is too long to turn on my frame. I most definitely will post pictures when I'm done. :)
When my dh gets home I will see what he thinks too.
