Something neat I saw at Stitch'n'Time in Jackson Hole, WY
 

We are on vacation and I found the nicest little quilt shop in Jackson Hole called Stitch'n'Time. I found one area of fat 1/8ths for $.50, fat 1/4's for $1, 1/2 yds for $2.50 & so on. It was called "timeless treasures". The owner explained to me that she buys back leftover fabrics from her customers for $5 per pound. It is all prewashed and she cuts it up in various sizes and resells it. I was able to get enough for a nice size "couch size" quilt top for @$12. I just thought it was a really nice idea- a way she could support "going green" and I could support my habit on the cheap. ;-)

When I get back home I'm going to tell my LQS and see if it's something they might start.

That is the best Win-Win idea I've heard in a long time! Time consuming for shop owner, but selling stuff twice is pretty cool, while keeping people coming back to the store. Hope you're having a great trip, too! Such fun to find a shop where you didn't expect it!

Wow that's such a great idea! My daughter lives about 45 mins from Jackson hole in Idaho, isn't it just amazingly beautiful around the mountains out there. Maybe i'll have her stop there next time she has to travel there to pick someone up from the airport. I wish all quilt shops did something like this. Sure would help encourage more people to try quilting.

We are going to Jackson/Yellowstone in October and I can't wait to visit this shop. Thanks so much for sharing. We have a list a mile long of things to see---can't see them all. Would you mind sharing what you especially liked. This is our first visit.

What a great idea! I love Jackson's Hole--so beautiful. (I was there 40 years ago, however, and not much was there then.)

Definitely go see the quilt shop! Lol!! Oh, you mean scenery, etc? We went to Teton Village and did the tram. It's a 12 min ride up the mtn. for a spectacular view. Be sure and wear a jacket no matter how nice it feels down below. It was 83* down below and 59* on top of mtn. and windy. But the view was worth it. Your hotel probably has a $3 off coupon they"ll give you. With the coupon it makes it $26. In JH our favorite restaurant was the brewery- not the Thai brewery, but the other one. Good beer (my dh says) & good food.

We entered Yellowstone from the south entrance and went up the western side, staying in Gartiner last night, and doing the eastern side today, then back around to the western side. Along the western side is where you see the wildlife- yesterday we saw elk in the river, buffalo alongside the road in the meadows, and mtn goat up on the rocky hillsides. We stopped at several of the geyser basins. That is incredible. The one called paint pots were my favorites- very colorful. We went to old faithful but she had just blown her top so we're making our way around there again today. We know an @ time frame now. I hope you have a great trip. I'm sure it'll be beautiful. The wildfires out west has made the mtns. a bit hazy looking, but still beautiful in all their majesty! Enjoy!

Reselling fabric! Sounds like a wonderful idea. I'm always trying to use everything, down to the last crumb, and when I hear of people throwing out fabric, I cringe. I hope this catches on other places.

Does she still have her blank quilt blocks out for her customers to sign? I was in there in 2009, love the little shop.

What a fantastic idea! I love scrappy quilts, and this would be a terrific way to get an amazing variety of fabrics for less. Love the other poster's point, about how reselling the fabric keeps quilters coming back to the store, too! That store owner is one smart cookie.

I was there too! What a lovely shop with a lovely owner! It was a highlight of the trip. I bought stuff and loved the visit. Thanks for bringing up the memory.

I'd be a #1 customer if my LQS did that.....I'm gonna tell her about it, for sure!

This is a great idea! The local quilt guild has what they call a country store at the quilt show yearly. The members resale thier fabric and books and things at a great lower price. It is a win win situation.

They also sell sewing machines,rulers, paterns, quilts, quilted jackets, wall hangings and such. It gives them an outlet to sell something that isn't being used.

Oh my goodness, I need to call my LQS and see if she is interested in doing this. I'm afraid that she might say she will feel she has to wash them herself (even if they are already washed) and iron them and it will take up too much time. But, then again, that's just my brain thinking the worst. She might be all for it. Her business has slowed down. There is a new shop in town that has hurt her (I am guilty of shopping there as well. I feel like a traitor, but she sells the newest bright and cheerful fabric) and online shopping has definitely hurt her. Maybe she'll be all excited about this. Then, I can find some fabric from a ways back that I'm having trouble finding. Wouldn't that be great? I have so many FQs that I would resell because after I brought them home, I realized they weren't for me.

My daughter tired that with some FQ's and the prewashed ones didn't sell so maybe it just the area you are in or she is in.

Great recycling idea. Wish they'd do something like that around here. Hope your vacation is lots of fun!

That is a great marketing idea. I think I will suggest it to my LQS.

Maybe someone could try selling unused fabrics here for $5.00 a pound plus postage. I surely have lots of leftovers.

Wow, thanks for all the great info. The quilt shop, brewery and tram are definitely on my list. We are staying ten days so maybe we will see everything----including a grizzly!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the idea, I have a box of pieces I thought would work with quilts and then changed my mind on. Sell that easy would be great idea.

That would also be a neat idea for a used fabric store. You know they have rainy day book stores where you can go and trade used books in. I will suggest it to my LQS also.

I was in charge of all the fabric in the thrift store that I volunteered at, and I would take all
the small pieces and yards of fabric home to cut them into 6" squares and then made packages of
100 squares. They sold like hotcakes. One woman said she would buy them for her elderly mother to
sew quilts.

This is a fabulous idea. It would be wonderful if this idea could be spread around. I'll do my part!
