I use to buy fabric for one quilt and then make that quilt. I worked very well that way for many years. Then I started seeing other people's quilts and having to have the same fabric and pattern. Then I went to online shops and bought kits and fabric lines and that's all she wrote. Now I spend entirely too much time organizing my sewing room - putting away my new fabric and BOMs that I don't have time to start so I buy more plastic storage bins to store them in. I just totally reorganized my room and my huge ironing board has fabric all over it. I can't even iron until I open up my box with my new storage containers. And I have to find room for them now! I need to stop looking at pictures of fabric!! Help me!

At almost 78 I keep it to two projects going at once. I sew for one, and cut for the other. Then tie or quilt the first and sew the second etc etc etc. smile. Keeps me from getting bored with one. At least if I go to the quilt retreat in the sky there won't be a bunch of UFO's . LOL.. :-)

I'm horrible doing this, I just started quilting about a month or so ago and already have 3 wips. It doesnt surprise me though I do the same with all the other crafts I do.

I think that the "sporadic" or "mood" quilter is a perfect description of the art of quilting. At 65 (must be the baby boomer coming of age quilter) also, I earn the right to do "what" floats my boat. I have a stash full of what if's, when if's, and creative "wow, why did I every buy that", but it is what it is. I have a top ready to be sewn together, 4 quilts that should go to the long armer, 10 Quilt for Kids quilt fabric washed, and ready to be cut, a couple of Laurel Burch's that are next (mermaid and felines). Right now, I am in the "sewing quilter's block" and I am in the design phase. I have decided to do a quilt for the spare room, and am tearing apart all the bins for yellow and lime fabric. Maybe tomorrow the sewing machine siren will call me.
